Wikileaks' Assange in UK, police know where: report

LONDON | Wed Dec 1, 2010 7:36pm EST
(Reuters) - Wikileaks website founder Julian Assange is in Britain and police know his whereabouts but have refrained so far from acting on an international warrant for his arrest, a British newspaper said on Thursday.

The 39-year-old Australian, who founded the whistle-blowing website that has disclosed a trove of secret U.S. diplomatic cables, supplied British police with contact details upon his arrival in October, The Independent said. The newspaper cited police sources who said they knew where Assange was staying and had his telephone number. It added that it was believed he was in southeast England.

The international police agency Interpol this week issued a "red notice" to assist in the arrest of Assange, who is wanted in Sweden on suspicion of sexual crimes, but Britain's Serious Organized Crime Agency (Soca) so far has refused to authorize this, the paper said.

Citing unnamed sources, the Independent said Soca needed clarifications about the European Arrest Warrant issued by Swedish prosecutors but it described the delay as technical.

The Metropolitan Police and Soca declined to comment when contacted by Reuters.

2. The way they spread the Diplomatic memos around, it looks like they WANTED those out....
but the banking dirt is probably a whole different animal.

3. Yep. The rape story has been around for a while if I recall correctly. And he hasn't
been charged with anything, right?

The banking honchos could buy a GOOD victim if the allegations are weak.

4. Actually this warrant is new- they've just mostly been tossing the word "rape" around as a smear.
This is the first time there's anything actually attached to it. The whole thing is as dodgy as you can get. I recall reading that Assange has already offered to present himself for questioning by Swedish authorities, like at an embassy or something. But so far, they're getting much more mileage out of "International Rapist on the Run!"

Typical. They tried to do the same damned thing to Ellsberg by breaking into his psychiatrist's office.

5. I mean don't you think it's funny for a guy who takes so many international flights that if they...
...REALLY wanted him in custody they could do it when he's at a goddamned airport? Once you start thinking it through, a lot of this bullshit smear campaign falls apart.

6. Nothing in the Diplomatic leaks was really news. Big Bank (BofA size) shenannigans though...
He could do some major damage to one of the Banksters and the world economy by exposing the crap the banks have done and are doing. So of course he's toast now. There might be documents that expose the banksters to all sorts of legal actions. I sure hope so. We all should know their fraudulent mortgage business and now its evil twin the foreclosure business are intentional and willful schemes. If his leaks can prove the scams went to the top they're in deep shit.

14. Or the US... uh... the Bankster's Administration and Congress would...
quickly manage to set up and vote 'retro-active' immunity for their Real Owners, in case.

That's what they do in such cases.

15. That's not accurate. There is a lot of new material.
Plus, it isn't all out yet.

But never underestimate the media's stake in getting people to ignore what is right under their noses.
