WikiLeaks Website Overcomes Internet Blow (new addy wikileaks.ch)
Source: Sky News

Controversial whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks has had to change its domain name after the previous provider said it had withdrawn service to it.
The site has recently released thousands of secret US diplomatic documents, called cables, which have caused embarrassment to governments around the world.

Attempts to access wikileaks.org were met with an error message, saying the page could not be displayed.

But it has now switched to a Swiss domain name provider, and is now using the internet address wikileaks.ch

Wikileaks is reportedly down worldwide after its DNS provider EveryDNS.net stopped providing DNS support to the controversial website after giving a 24 hour termination notice.

Wikileaks apparently confirmed this within the last hour in a tweet, saying, “WikiLeaks, org domain killed by US everydns.net after claimed mass attacks”.

5. Well you know, it sounds like the Everyweb DNS couldn't deal with the attacks
and so had to drop wikileaks.org.

I think this may be something to file under "unfortunate but reasonable."

11. Domain Name Server is not the website, it is just the phone book equivalent
and tells the incoming request what the IP number of the domain name is.

Attacking a DNS server stalls the entire net served by that server. It is not the same as attacking the website's server.

So, was Everyweb hosting the domain too?

8. WikiLeaks Changes Domain Name After Cyberattacks
Source: NYT

LONDON — An American provider of Internet domain names withdrew its service to the WikiLeaks Web site after a barrage of attacks by hackers that threatened to destabilize its entire system, according to the provider and WikiLeaks itself on Friday. But within hours, WikiLeaks said it had registered its domain name in Switzerland.

By mid-morning, attempts to access the original Wikileaks.org Web site produced only a page saying: “The address is not valid.” The new domain name, Wikileaks.ch, appeared to be providing only sporadic access to the site.

The action by EveryDNS.net, which provides around 500,000 Web sites, followed a decision on Wednesday by Amazon.com Inc. to expel WikiLeaks, the whistle-blowing organization, from its servers, although it remains on the servers of a Swedish host, Bahnhof, as it continues to anger the United States by publicizing a huge array of some 250,000 leaked State Department documents relating to American foreign policy around the globe.

In a statement on its Web site, EveryDNS.com, the provider said it terminated WikiLeaks domain name around 10 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

“The services were terminated for violation of the provision which states that a ‘member shall not interfere with another member’s use and enjoyment of the service or another entity’s use and enjoyment of similar services.’”

10. This is bullshit.
“The services were terminated for violation of the provision which states that a ‘member shall not interfere with another member’s use and enjoyment of the service or another entity’s use and enjoyment of similar services.’”

Wikileaks is not interfering with anyone, the 'hackers' (the US government) are.
What EveryDNS.net should be doing is filing a complaint with the FBI over criminal interference by 'hackers'.
Blaming Wikileaks for the criminal actions of other people is ridiculous.
