Source: Houston Chronicle

CEDAR HILL, Texas — A Dallas-area man needed stitches after he says his new cell phone exploded and left him with a bloody heady.

The incident happened Thursday morning as Aron Embry of Cedar Hill finished a call. He says he heard a loud "pop."

WFAA-TV reports Embry sought treatment at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He received four stitches in his ear area, but says he did not suffer hearing loss. Embry had a bandage around his head following the incident.

The Motorola Droid smartphone, which Embry says he bought two days earlier, has a broken face. Blood was seen on the device.

Motorola Inc. on Thursday night issued a statement says its priority is customer safety and it is investigating the incident.

Will add a link to video when I find it. Saw this on our local morning news. The man had blood coming from the area of his ear streaming down his neck. He didn't call 911 but went to the school where his wife works and she called 911.

Here's a link to the WFAA story and video- Says that the phone was still operational and the battery was intact.

4. He was sent "The Signal".
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 10:35 AM by EnviroBat
The government is testing out it's next era of smart weapons designed to target civilians. If they hear you say something subversive, they send "The Signal" and blow your head off. This was just a small test using a lower milli-watt transmission. The full force will cause the targets head to explode completely. Sad that some of these "targets" will be driving when they get "The Signal" and possibly take out other motorists with their sudden headless driving technique.

CEDAR HILL, Texas — A Dallas-area man needed stitches after he says his new cell phone exploded and left him with a bloody heady.

Bloody heady? Was he holding the phone next to his heady? If so, how's his handy? Was it also hurty?

The incident happened Thursday morning as Aron Embry of Cedar Hill finished a call. He says he heard a loud "pop."

That was his eary being forcibly removed.

WFAA-TV reports Embry sought treatment at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He received four stitches in his ear area, but says he did not suffer hearing loss. Embry had a bandage around his head following the incident.

Was it his eary, or his eary area? How far from the eary do the stitches have to be before they move to the face area? (Sorry -make that his "Facey" area). We want the truthy!

The Motorola Droid smartphone, which Embry says he bought two days earlier, has a broken face.

The exact same thing could be said about Mr. Embry. And how "smart' was that SmartPhone anyway?

Motorola Inc. on Thursday night issued a statement says its priority is customer safety and it is investigating the incident.

You really should think twice about using a cell phone from a company whose priority is customer safety. I didn't realize (till now) that cell phones were so dangerous. Seems to me that Motorola's priority should be cost, or reception. The fact that THEY are concerned about safety should tell us something, I'm thinking...

Will add a link to video when I find it. Saw this on our local morning news. The man had blood coming from the area of his ear streaming down his neck. He didn't call 911 but went to the school where his wife works and she called 911.

And who can blame him? I don't think the Mr. Embry will want another phone around his heady, especially in his ear area, for quite some time...

13. The phone didn't "explode", the glass broke. There have been a few reports of this on iPhone too.
Many manufacturers of high end smartphones have been moving away from plastic screens to use old fashioned GLASS instead. As anyone with a history of using Pyrex in the oven can tell you, sometimes glass just breaks when heated, without any apparent reason. All it takes is one tiny defect in the glass, or one tiny chip in a corner to get it started. When imperfect glass is subjected to thermal expansion, the results can send glass flying everywhere.

Smarphones tend to warm up a bit after talking on them a while, and you'll note that Mr. Bloody Heady was injured as he was ENDING the call...the phone had been running a while, warming up, and expanding.

Well, I'm no expert, but can a phone that explodes in your ear area
really be called a smartphone? That sounds like one damned dumbphone to moi.
