WikiLeaks chief: Expect UFO talk in future files
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 02:07 PM by Turborama
Source: MSNBC

LONDON — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said on Friday that there were some references to UFOs in "yet-to-be-published" confidential files obtained from the U.S. government.

=snip=

Assange also addressed the attention he has been getting while the rest of his organization has remained largely anonymous.

"In the end, someone must be responsible to the public and only a leadership that is willing to be publicly courageous can genuinely suggest that sources take risks for the greater good," he said.

"In that process, I have become the lightning rod. I get undue attacks on every aspect of my life, but then I also get undue credit as some kind of balancing force."

From the OP posted by Joanne98: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9680085">WikiLeaks to reveal UFO references in cables

WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange was in a Q&A with Guardian readers today.

He was asked this question:

Mr Assange, have there ever been documents forwarded to you which deal with the topic of UFOs or extraterrestrials?

He replies:

Many weirdos email us about UFOs or how they discovered that they were the anti-christ whilst talking with their ex-wife at a garden party over a pot-plant. However, as yet they have not satisfied two of our publishing rules.

1) that the documents not be self-authored;
2) that they be original.

However, it is worth noting that in yet-to-be-published parts of the cablegate archive there are indeed references to UFOs.

1. attention seeking. Yup that about sums it up.
I think he is 90% in this thing, not for "the greater good" but to achieve fame. He was probably hoping for fortune too.

12. This is one of the favorite tricks against Assange.
Take a Q&A and only publish his answer or only highlight his answer. They did this with the Times' question to him about whether Hillary should resign and made it sound as if he called a press conference to "call for her resignation".

Hell, even HERE there are people who are calling him a traitor, saying he should face exectuion (never mind that he is not American, so CANNOT be a traitor, and when was the last time we executed a spy?).

15. reallY?
I really don't see why, if he is only doing this for fame and fortune, would he be risking his life as he is. There is a very real possibility that he will be arrested and never see the light of day or he may just end up dead. Plus I don't think they would be pursuing him so vigorously if there wasn't incriminating evidence in the files.

27. OKNancy, I disagree with you.
I think he is, like so many of us, just sick and tired of our weak and ineffective media. We want real information about what is going on in the world. But the media headlines stories about the latest celebrity's drug problems.

The stories I have read were all items that a decent press would have disclosed long ago -- would have ferreted out and reported on its own without having to get access to secret, government files.

Assange is showing the media to be what it is -- the tool of oppression.

We no longer have freedom of the press. We now only have freedom to Suppress.

I'm sure he's also finding it fun to be chased down by our government and

Interpol!!

Thom Hartmann was calling him the nation's "hero" today and he was talking about

Assange's prior work in trying to expose government corruption, though I didn't

get all the details of that -- evidently projects Assange has worked on over years.

9. Really something "Mockingbird" in that ...
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 01:46 PM by defendandprotect
Truman could discuss UFOs and his Generals could discuss UFO's --

Ike could talk about UFOs and evidently had a sighting while on a ship --

Ford could -- and tried to investigate

Carter also had a sighting with 20 others -- and was told by Bush/CIA that he didn't

have high enough security clearance -- i.e., UFO's are a higher security issue than atomic

weapons!

Reagan could talk about UFOs -- did so frequently -- and also had a remarkable sighting

while traveling on a commercial plane --

Clinton tried to investigate UFOs while president and was also blocked --

but the attempts to make it a taboo subject linger on --

What we should note is Operation Mockingbird and that the most serious threats to

corrupt and criminal government are met with "ridicule" -- "infiltration" -- and/or

personal attacks on the messenger!

42. I really don't get how the president could NOT have a high enough clearance.
He is the fucking president and has the capability to fire anywho who tells him he doesn't have the clearance - and work down through the ranks until somebedy gives him the clearance.

When our obsession with secrecy extends to keeping secrets from the president, then it's gone WAY too far.

What you mock as Bigfoot is an incarnation of honesty.

Until a human being is rooted in truth and honesty - a very advanced spiritual state -- he or she will remain blind to teachings of Sa-Be.

So it has ever been.

I'm not sure how I feel about Assange, but this report is pure smear and trying to make him look crazy and/or a sex offender: from exaggerating the UFO comment to the creepy photo of Assange (below), to the lurid sex offense story/photo at the bottom.

24. I was commenting on MSNBC's emphasis, which imo is intended to smear him
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 02:33 PM by deutsey
I read the Gaurdian Q&A earlier today before I saw the MSNBC article and knew about the UFO comment.

I thought nothing of that comment, as it seemed nothing more than an aside to an offbeat question he received. MSNBC seemed to think it was the most newsworthy thing since it was their lead.

I've worked as a journalist and I wouldn't have led with the UFO comment, personally. But then I wouldn't be trying to smear Assange, probably.

And they need to do a better job of editing as well..."death treats?" It's in the subtitle:

In online chat, founder Julian Assange also discusses death treats and history's judgment

Does he have pictures of the Roswell aliens or just more emails with random "UFO talk" in them??

See...he builds us up for a big reveal and then it ends up just being thousands and thousands of documents that don't really say anything about anything.

More masturbation for his ego.

28. If only the atrocities he exposes were the subject of interest in the press
instead of Assange himself. He is trying to wake up the press to these hidden stories. They are just bored. Until some chick accuses Assange of having sex without a condom, which is apparently against an obscure law in Sweden. Then they hop aboard the CIA ratfucker express.

We don't have a free press here. That is the real message of Wikileaks.

33. Well... Truman and his Generals, Eisenhower, Ford, Carter, Reagan all were interested....
Many of them saw UFO's -- many of them tried to investigate --

Carter was told by Poppy Bush that he didn't have high enough security clearance

to see the info on UFO's -- in other words, UFO's are more secret than our atomic

weapons!

Sen. Steven Schiff of NM tried to investigate UFO's and Roswell in the 1990's --

the government told him that they didn't have any records of the Roswell event.

Astronauts have seen UFO's and discuss them, but you're following the "Mockingbird"

pattern?
