Library of Congress Is Latest Government Institution to Block Wikileaks

By TPM
Dec 3, 2010 02:50 PM

The Library of Congress has blocked access to the Wikileaks site on its staff computers and on the wireless network that visitors use, two sources tell TPM.

The error message reportedly reads:

Ad or Website blocked by LC DNSBH. Advertisements or websites that may be malicious are blocked.
If this message appears in lieu of an advertisement (i.e., on part of the page), the advertisement site may be malicious. However the website is safe to use.
If this message appears on a page by itself, the website is blocked due to potential malicious content.
More information - LC IT Security

A spokesman for the library could not immediately comment, but expects to have a statement shortly.

2. We now have Freedom of Suppression, not Freedom of the Press.
The government has no right to stop any publication based on political content. This is an egregious violation of our right to a free press and of the Constitution.

7. I wonder...
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 04:42 PM by Frisbee
how many people who might otherwise have just ignored it and gone about their daily business will now be curious as to why their employer doesn't want them to see it, and will look it up at home. Of course Big Brother is probably already actively monitoring their personal computers and will know who peeked.

Edited for spelling (as usual)

their new server. I can access the main site but can't seem to access any of the links for the files, or indices.

11. Two Americas
We have been told that when the govt. reads our emails, listens to our phone calls, does illegal search and seizure, and now looking into our panties if we want to travel by air...

If you don't have anything to hide, nothing to be concerned about. Double standard much?

How's that constitution thingy going US govt.?

As Amy Goodman said, "What would be the difference if we had state media?"
