(CNN) Source: House Democrats won't 'rubber stamp' tax deal
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama prepared to discuss ongoing tax negotiations behind closed doors at the White House Monday with leading House Democrats, many of whom are believed to be unhappy with a potential deal to extend the Bush-era cuts for the richest Americans.

"We won't rubber stamp a deal between the White House and (Senate Minority Leader) Mitch McConnell," one Democratic congressional source told CNN. "We want to make it clear. Don't take our support for granted."

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, are among the expected attendees at the meeting. The two leaders also huddled with Vice President Joe Biden.

Liberal House Democrats are believed to be among the most reluctant in Congress to agree to a deal extending all of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts.

1. They are reluctant because they are more vulnerable than Obama to losing re-election
due to supporting this travesty.

8. Only Little People collect unemployment insurance benefits.
Not big, important Congress members. :sarcasm:

Some people here don't seem to get that a PLURALITY of members of Congress are millionaires, many who are multi-millionaires. Unemployment is not a scary issue to them because they have all the money they are ever going to need. And empathy is for 'suckers' like Feingold - makes you feel good but will lose you elections.

Without sunset, our dollar is going to be worth air. Those middle class tax cuts will mean NOTHING because they won't be able to buy a newspaper with them.

And I am having a split second of agreement with Palin: How's that hopey changey thing working for ya?

We will finally get to see Obama take a stand against Congress, since it's the democrats blocking something for a change.

I think Timmeh may well win, bless his Republican heart.

Remember how House Democrats stood firm for a public option? Then again, that was during the honeymoon period, after a big coattails election. I think the honeymoon may have ended with midterms.

But, we'll soon see, won't we? January 1 is almost upon us.
