BAGHDAD, Iraq (Reuters) - Fresh fighting between U.S. forces and Shi'ite militiamen erupted in a Baghdad neighborhood Monday, with two Apache helicopters firing on targets in the area, Reuters journalists at the scene said.

2. Holy Shit!
All hell is breaking lose over there today!

I'm having a really tough time this weekend knowing Kerry voted for this war. Trust me I have every intention of voting for him... but we knew this war would turn out like this... why did he trust Chimpy? I don't think I will ever be able to fully understand.

5. I hear you,
it's something that I'm just going to have to choke down and live with, while reminding myself that Kerry has many good qualities.

At any rate, Kerry is going to inherit a heck of a mess if he wins this election. I just hope he will be able to handle it more effectively than the idiots currently in charge, if it is even handleable by then.

7. I Really Dislike The Appeasers Here And Elsewhere
We told everyone that would listen that invading and occupying Iraq was fraught with peril and a mistake.

I am very tired of those that have suddenly found religion on this issue.

I am equally tired of politicians that can't stand and be counted by saying they made a mistake.

The republicans espouse the mantra of personal responsibility; now would be good time to come clean.

Some democrats should take this advice as well.

8. Sadr City is a poor residential area, with many families...
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 04:50 AM by DeepModem Mom
according to Sky News UKtv reporter David Chaiter, reporting live from Baghdad. He says helicopter attacks are very difficult in this kind of neighborhood, and predicts a large number of casualties on the ground. He also said that this is a "declaration of war" on Sadr's militiamen.

9. Bad, BAD news.
Lots of citizens to vaporize.

Remember, months ago, we were told that suddenly the Iraqii temporary government didn't find it necessary to keep a count of the Iraqii citizens killed.

I'm sure that Bremer and his people had NOTHING to do with this decision, aren't you?

There's no one on earth who's aware of just how many of them we have killed now, as it appears they just don't matter any more.

It DID seem so unlikely when that news came out, so Bush friendly.

Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 06:18 AM by acmavm
be a big manipulation by bush* & Co. and the Chalabi run governing group to force a showdown with Sadr and his followers now, to push them into insurrection so that they can kill them and hopefully (for the felonious clowns who started this mess) allow a 'peaceful' transition in June. bush* wouldn't hesitate a heartbeat to use American sons and daughters if he thought it would gain him some political points. And we all know innocent Iraqis don't mean squat.

The article was by Juan Cole, I think. And the idea sounded so warped and sick that I can just picture Wolfie and Perle and Cheney licking their fangs when they came up with it.

11. Interesting idea
but it's hard to believe that even the Bush team could be THAT stupid. If Sadr is eliminated his place will be taken by someone even more popular, with Sadr's death to avenge. These are people who, like the Vietnamese, CANNOT be ruled by force. You just can't do it. They will keep killing you anyway they can until you capitulate.

My fear is that the Bush team cannot imagine that the Iraqi people don't in fact hate freedom, they love it as much as we do. And they will fight, and die, to secure it. They didn't expect that and they aren't prepared to handle it. The occupation is doomed to fail; we need to turn this over to Iraqis, the sooner the better.

13. another great day for the freedom fries establishment
those myopic morons who don't read history, don't take a damn second to learn another culture and believe that the rest of the world should jump just because we say so-how many years to undo this blunder? How many lives do we take and lose before the so self-evident failure is admitted to-
