Murder threats to family of Julian Assange
Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 11:18 PM by Turborama
Source: Telegraph (Australia)

Lucy Carne in London| December 07, 2010 12:00AM

WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange says militant supporters of the US military have made death threats against his family in Australia.

The 39-year-old Australian, who caused global diplomatic embarrassment after leaking a sensitive haul of US embassy cables last week, told Spanish newspaper El Pais of his fears for the safety of his family and his lawyers after recently receiving threats.

Mr Assange said he "had hundreds of specific death threats from US military militants" warning that those close to him could be murdered in an attempt to silence him. "Recently the situation has changed, with these threats now extending out (to) our lawyers and my children," he said.

Mr Assange refused to detail the threats for fear of encouraging an attempt on their lives, but added "some right-wing sites also called for attacking me via my children".

In respect of his wishes I won't post the link but I've seen one of the blogs he's talking about where some sick fuck has made a case for using his son Daniel as bait.

6. FYI, the military has confirmed that there has
been no casualties from that info dump. Assange redacted any information that mentioned non political names from what he released. He was very careful about it, and that is why it wasn't dumped as soon as he received it.

What is your trip? You've been attacking him on any available grounds in this and at least one other thread. When you get refuted on one attack, you shift to another. Is it personal?

this is what IT gets. of course, the various international gangster clubs (aka "governments & media") and the keyboard brigades are throwing a little temper tantrum about the shady deeds being struck by the light, but that's the least of what is coming.

40. because he is playing a game with people's lives.
he should stick to bank information, which is legal to dump and actually helpful. Dumping unredacted diplomatic cables that bradley manning stole will kill people if their names turn up.

just because he is new jesus around here, best thing evAAr to some he is still just a guy publishing stolen classified information.

This the internet, people have a right to like and dislike whatever they want.

Hey be sure to buy stock in raytheon, they will now be getting a multibillion dollar contract for a boost phase interceptor system, thanks to assange I know iran has icbm's and that this weapon system will be accelerated now that people will be pressured to do something.

Your new savior is breaking diplomatic channels, not the war, not military information. Just diplomacy.

We keep hearing that. We haven't seen that.

Though I do realize that it may be easy to minimize the opinions others may hold of Assange ("new savior", "new jesus", ect.), it appears to be even easier to fundamentally rest one's premise on a consequence that may although hasn't, happened.

Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 11:59 PM by Pavulon
he is putting other people's lives at risk. his conspirators and sources will pay if he names them. he should consider that people are killed by accident in wars all the time before he names sources.

Pretty sure you can find video of such collateral damage on liveleak.

Hopefully his family is safe, however if he dumps names, he should make arrangements for himself and advise his conspirators to do the same.

That being said: I don't check in here often, but I've been reading the Wikileaks postings off and on yesterday, and I have to ask: WTF is your problem, exactly? Do you make a habit of repeatedly calling for people's assassinations, or is this a personal issue with Assange? Are you in one of the cables as an informant? Inquiring minds want to know, because, frankly, you're creeping me out and it looks like I'm not alone.

38. All people have protection here if they are being threatened
with death from this country. It is the duty of the DOJ to investigate and prosecute anyone making such threats towards children and other innocents. I am sure the Australian government will be requesting that. Since the puppet who just became PM over there has fueled the flames of hatred, now extended to his family, I am sure public pressure over there will force her to do her duty.

Meanwhile it's great to see how people all over the world are keeping Wikileaks online and hackers are retaliating against the illegal freezing of Wikileaks funds in a Swiss Bank. A Bank which I'm sure kept Pinochet's money for him eg. Hypocrites and liars all of them and it's great to see them be exposed. Actually they are doing more to expose themselves for what they are by their reaction to these leaks, than the leaks themselves. This government and its puppets around the world, are acting like a totalitarian government now. They don't even hide it anymore.

But they didn't count on the fact that there would be so much support for real freedom of the press and so many people willing to protect Julian Assange around the world.

You really should try to get on the right side of history on this. This is a battle against evil everywhere, against torturers no matter where they are, against corrupt war-mongers and thieves and leaders who lie to their people and kill other countries' citizen as if they were not even human.

34. Yeah, they are right-wing trolls
There is no difference anymore between the online right-wing ranters and the ones who manage to get their stuff published in actual right-wing publications -- they speak to the same crowd of knuckle-dragging, neofascist trolls. And this core group of trolls are the ones who throw bricks through Democratic office windows, threaten the lives of twelve-year-old children, and leave violent, semi-incoherent voicemails on the Assange family answering machine.

37. I'm sure Eric Holder will be looking into the rightwing sites
here who are issueing death threats against his family.

And the PM of Australia will be offering them protection I would expect. After all she fanned the flames of hatred for him herself and anyone who did should and will be held accountable by people around the world, if anything happens to any member of his family.

Thanks Turborama. I remember you posting that and thought it should be sent to the Australian PM so she can protect her citizens from this kind of madness. Madness she defends.
