WikiLeaks, the anti-secrecy Web site, has yet to make good on a July pledge to contribute financial aid to the legal defense fund of a U.S. Army private suspected of leaking classified documents to the site, the fund's director said Tuesday.

"It's a surprise to us that it hasn't happened yet," said Jeff Paterson, project director of Courage to Resist, an Oakland, Calif., group seeking to raise $100,000 toward legal fees for Pfc. Bradley E. Manning, who was charged five months ago in connection with the leaking of classified material.

Courage to Resist, a war resisters' group, so far has donated $50,000 to pay the fees of Manning's private attorney, David E. Coombs. But as of Tuesday, Paterson said, WikiLeaks had not transferred any money to him.

Late Tuesday, WikiLeaks spokesman Kristinn Hrafnsson said in an e-mail that a misunderstanding about the status of the payment had been "rectified" and the "payment is being processed now."

1. "The Payment is being processed now
I see the Washington Post is doing it's best to do their master's bidding. How many people will read the headline and not the article?

4. How does shutting down their website
equate with your parents' inability to buy groceries?

5. The web site doesn't need to be up for them to charge their groceries
Remember, credit cards predate the Web...

9. That's part of what has TPTB so shit-scared about Wikileaks.
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 10:42 AM by GliderGuider
It puts the spotlight directly on them, and reduces their ability to deflect public attention with their Cloak of Invisibility (aka classifying themselves into invisibility).

The other thing that has TPTB shittin' and gittin' is that they can no longer be certain that their comms channels are secure. Who or what has been compromised? If you don't know, you have to assume that the entire system is insecure. Makes it much harder to plan wars in Iraq and Afghanistan or banker bailouts if you can't talk to anyone without thinking it will leak out.

Snicker.
Chortle.
Guffaw!

6. Legal advice was given to them to avoid directly implicating Manning previously.

I guess this has been cleared now. This topic has been discussed in several interviews with Assange and Ellsberg.

Look for Democracy Now! Interview and also the one done in London right after the "Iraq War Log". These are on youtube, too....

7. Unless there are two sets of laws, one for the rich and another for the poor,
then this soldier should walk away a free man. Dick Cheney, the rich guy, leaked state secrets when he released Valerie Plame's identity, lives were placed in danger as a result, and yet he remains unscathed. Why would this soldier be subject to any different treatment?
