WikiLeaks outs Mark Arbib as US informant
Source: The Australian

FEDERAL Labor powerbroker Mark Arbib has been outed as a key source of intelligence on government and internal party machinations to the US embassy.

New embassy cables, released by WikiLeaks to Fairfax newspapers today, reveal the influential right-wing Labor MP has been one of the embassy's best ALP informants, along with former frontbencher Bob McMullan and current MP Michael Danby.

The documents say the Minister for Sport had been secretly offering details of Labor's inner workings even before his election to the Senate in 2007, dating back to his time as general secretary of the party's NSW branch from 2004.

Senator Arbib was one of the "faceless men" who was instrumental in the decision to oust Kevin Rudd and install Julia Gillard as Prime Minister in June.

The documents also identify Senator Arbib as a strong backer of the Australia-US alliance.

1. Out them all. People need to know what their politicians are doing behind their backs.
Without an informed citizenry, you have no real democracy.

That's how you blow a hole in imperialist hegemony. Tell the truth about its inner workings.

What does he hope to accomplish? It was a question posed to me that I am having difficulty in answering.

7. Is it really that preposterous that someone would put themselves on the line..
for an ideal?
Maybe, just maybe, it is what he says it is. In the end I think more good will come out of this than bad.

8. he claims it's an ideal to openness
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 10:44 AM by FamousBlueRaincoat
Perhaps if you think there are other motivations, you should put one forward for discussion, rather than just trying to make him seem seedy for no real reason?

Like this..."Besides perhaps an ideal of being President of the USA, I ponder Obama's motivation. What does he hope to accomplish? Someone asked me and I am having trouble answering."

You can do that to anyone, make an attempt at character defamation without really having anything to defame them with. I get that maybe you think he has other motivations, but when so many people are saying this (definitely not calling you out individually or personally, what you said is just being said all over the place) all it does is put the idea that he has evil intentions in peoples head, based on nothing at all.

Besides perhaps an ideal to post on DU, I ponder FamousBlueRaincoat's motivation. What does he hope to accomplish? It was a question posed to me, and I am having trouble answering.

WTF is he up to?

question. I certainly hope that it is for openness sake. If given the option, I err to the side of truth, and let that take us where it will. Like I mentioned, I wonder what they actually hope to accomplish. DO they have other motives? Do they want to create anarchy? Is he looking to start revolutions against governments? Is he looking to make money? Is he just an ego-maniac? I'm becoming a bit cynical the older I get; and well, I hate getting my hopes up for nothing.

Emotionally, I hope he brings down the whole f*cking system and we see if our phoenix can rise from the ashes. Logically, I don't know if that is such a good thing.

At this point, I also most certainly question Obama's motivation, and I voted for him. I am epically disappointed.

18. Maybe he just likes the American govt so much, he wants them to know what Australians are doing
It says he's "a strong backer of the Australia-US alliance". So he trusts the US government so much he tells them what his party's internal workings are.

You might call him a brown-noser, but maybe he's just an americanophile.

Abraham Lincoln? Martin Luther King? Nelson Mandela?

Who knows. What matters is that they advanced justice and freedom.
