idea? I would guess that many so called "hackers" are taking advantage of the wikileak issue to play their own games. How are they going to know?

Mastercard, Visa and Paypal would be best served by placing him on their payrolls and fund his legal defense.

35. depends on what he did exactly
I'm willing to bet he's just a normal kid who ran some programs or scripts he downloaded from the net. Then again, he may really know his stuff... but that's the least likely.

38. The big trend is running LOIC. It's basic DDoS.

If he's 16, he's infantry, not a commander.

Cannon fodder.

Let the analogies to US military ethics flow.

41. Slashdot is saying Ion Cannon is easily traceable back to the hacker.
Unless other protective procedures are also used. So it looks like the first wave of script kiddies might be rolled up pretty easily.

http://yro.slashdot.org/story/10/12/11/0228212/Anonymous-WikiLeaks-Proponents-Not-So-Anonymous

As I've said before, these kids are putting themselves at serious personal risk, and I worry for them even though they claim to know the stakes.

34. This is going to play doubly well.
I reckon the vast majority of those caught over these DDoS shenanigans will be teenaged script kiddies simply because so many are going to join in for the sake of joining in.

Simply catching the little bastards (affectionate tone) will do significant damage to MC, Visa et. al.:

Children have now demonstrated they can take down some of the most secure websites on the internet at will.

If something like the Mastercard "master list" story were to be true, no amount of reporting that it was an extremely sophisticated and well funded group of Eastern European hackers would shake the meme of kids playing merry hell with the world's financial system.

You have to spoof it yourself. Or go through an anonimizing process. Proxies. Then things you learn on the internet...yet, this stupid a-hole got himself caught.
