Petraeus Aide Marvin Hill: If Troops Can't Deal With DADT Repeal, They Should Leave The Service
Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- A senior aide to David Petraeus, commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, is out with a strong statement in support of repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT), saying that servicemembers who can't adjust to the change should think about leaving the military.

"If there are people who cannot deal with the change, then they're going to have to do what's best for their troops and best for the organization and best for the military service and exit the military service, so that we can move forward -- if that's the way that we have to go," said Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill in an interview with Roland Martin on Washington Watch, set to air on Sunday.

1. That's right! Great comment! I thought the troops were supposed to take orders. . .not to be
swayed by "touchy/feely feelings!"

2. I wonder what would happen if all of the gay in the Military would leave. I think they should out of
protest. They would loose a lot of people. In fact, I would say that any one who wished to leave the warzones, join in in solidarity and out themselves and leave. War is no good. Our gay military should be the first and stand up and leave, leading the way.

4. The military went through the same sort of panic and strife
in 1948 when Truman signed the law racially integrating the services. There was all kinds of nonsense about whites not wanting to serve as equals with or take orders from blacks, etc. They got over it. Today, nobody can any longer imagine a segregated military such as fought WW II.

6. That's what I have said all along. Obey the order to accept gays in the ranks,
or resign. The military needs to be purged of fundamentalists and neanderthals.

can the person next to them hit what they are aiming at

If they can't...nothing else much matters.

All should be able to serve...and serve proudly.

10. I'd love to see an endorsement from his boss for DADT repeal
An endorsement from the most respected general in the US would go a long way

This is a big deal! Enlisted personnel hold CSM's in great respect, and their influence on all ranks is very important.:applause:

15. Well said.
the homophobes do not get to hold progress hostage to cling to some outdated fantasy they have about the realities of a 21st century military.

It's time for Obama to withdraw his appeal of the CA ruling, suspend DADT and tell the brass to get with it or get out.

17. Well, except for that "Stop Loss" nonsense ...
The army is like Hotel California ...

you can resign any time you like ...

but you can never leave.

---------------------------------------

The "like it or get out" speech may be just a lot of hot air.

I would expect something along the lines of "I don't care what you like or don't like, soldier. Do your job."

Objections can be rewarded with mass quantities of push-ups.

:hi:

18. Interesting view - if he can't deal with the failure of repeal, should
he leave the service?

Better if the uniformed members just deal with the law as it is rather than jump in like CSM Hill is doing because he's close to being boxed into a position when his real responsibility is to support the law that we have rather than the one we might like to have.

19. Let's pretend blame for DADT and failure to repeal DADT belongs to the troops.
Shameful.
