Bremer Cancels Washington Trip, Senate Aides Say
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, has canceled a trip to brief lawmakers in Washington and will remain in Iraq, where occupation forces were battling an uprising by radical Shi'ites, Senate aides said on Monday.

Bremer had been slated to brief senators at the Capitol on Tuesday, congressional sources said.

"We have just been told he has canceled the trip," said a Senate aide, who asked that his name not be used. He gave no reason for the cancellation.

Bremer is remaining in Iraq as U.S. helicopters blasted targets in Baghdad in an intensifying showdown with Shi'ite Muslim radicals resisting America's postwar plans for Iraq.

1. What, exactly, is that idiot's job?
He isn't the military commander, because he's guarded by civilians (and he must be feeling so confident about that, just now) so what is he supposed to be in charge of? Who would miss him if he left?

5. The last time the Shias had an uprising
Saddam slaughtered them by the tens of thousands. Is Bremer prepared to match or outdo Saddam?

Perhaps Bremer should also be tried for war crimes alongside Saddam.
