US House to approve tax deal despite doubts: lawmaker
Source: AFP

The US House will approve a deal reached by President Barack Obama and Republicans that would avoid a major New Year's tax hike but was rejected by majority Democrats last week, a senior Democratic lawmaker said Sunday.

"In some form it will come to the floor of the House for a vote," assistant Speaker of the House of Representatives Chris Van Hollen told Fox News Sunday.

"There are some House Democrats who will refuse to go along with any deal (but) most of us understand we've got to make some tough compromises," he said.

"I am confident that when we get to January there will be no tax increases on middle-income Americans."

I agree...so let the wealthy compromise this time.

For the first time in 30 years.

4. What can a person say
about living in one of the RICHEST, CRUELEST countries on the planet? I have NO party anymore, except maybe the greens....or the socialists, who don't really HAVE a functioning party in this god-forsaken country. No party. No hope. No change I can believe in. No more votes for Obama. Maybe just no more votes anymore. What's the point? Ms Bigmack

6. I suggest a liberal version of the Tea Party
Gaining influence in the party to make it more progressive is the best direction, IMO.

What.... you mean get some big corporations to fund a bunch of clueless liberals to wear funny hats and shout stupid self-contradictory things?

24. IMO, you're dreaming. It's too late for that. The "wisdom" throughout the Party is
"Court the right bc the left has nowhere else to go anyway."

Example: Rahm, Chief of Staff to the head of the Democratic Party and a President in only his first term, called the left "fucking retards," then apologized only to Palin and no one apologized to the left.

The DLC and its ilk now control the WH and the DNC and therefore the Party. DNC policy is to support incumbents, period. Lieberman and Spectre got the nod, Lamont or Sestak got the shaft.

And Democrats should have never allowed the anti-Democratic super delegate system.

10. Start grooming a challenger for Obama, for one.

Sanders or Dean sound promising to me.

And continue the filibuster in the Senate.

And jam White House phones with complaints.

The real horror of the bill is the Social Security "holiday." That's going to make Social Security insolvent, guaranteed. No, they want to cut taxes for the middle class, cut it from the actual tax rate. FICA should not be negotiated.

31. Dean's already said he's against the idea of a challenger
and Sanders might be a good candidate, but the "socialist" label would immediately sink his candidacy.

7. What to do about it
There are other ways to vote than via the ballot. There is support of people like Assange who makes thing transparent and help to disseminate the truth. Obviously it seems that we never live in the state that the best representatives reside, but we can support them with donations and letters. There is living the way we want all to live. As I said in another post we are obligated to a revolution in times that are darkest. The means to the revolution is the internet, the right to bear arms and one of the guns is Wikileaks. There are other guns. Look for them. They are there. Obviously the ballot is to elect someone from two parties who are bought and paid for by the same companies. It seems hopeless, but you have to keep the faith. Support the right companies and organizations. I feel about as despondent as I ever have but force myself to keep believing.

they could have at the very least dropped the payroll tax holiday.

Can count on very few people today to keep their promises. Oh well. Good luck all, IMHO we are going to need it.
