Public Support for War Steady, But Bush Job Ratings Slip
The PEW Research Center poll:

http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=210

Bush's job approval rating is at a new low: 43%.

<snip>
Public support for war in Iraq has been unaffected by the murders and desecration of the corpses of American citizens in Falluja. However, continued turmoil and violence in Iraq may be taking a toll on President Bush's approval ratings. More Americans now disapprove of the way he is doing his job than approve, though by only a slight margin (47% disapprove vs. 43% approve). Just four-in-ten approve of the way Bush is handling the situation in Iraq, his lowest rating ever and down from 59% in January. Bush's evaluations on other issues – the economy, energy and even terrorism – have fallen as well. And by a wide margin (57% to 32%) the public does not think he has a clear plan for bringing the situation in Iraq to a successful conclusion.

1. Yeeeehaw. Historically, have 43%-ers won re-election?
BTW, I saw Judy Woodruff announce this, very quietly, almost as a conjunction to another thought, trying to couch the blow. If it had been Clinton, it would be the lead headline on all the news shows.

9. Maybe they aren't.
A couple of days ago I read that CNN's viewership is down 50% and FOX down 39%. Those are terrible numbers. Could we hope that America is getting tired of CNN-PRAVDA and FOX-PRAVDA?

11. Nah...
Just not enough images of cool big explosions against an urban skyline. That, and that the news lately has been demoralizing for the "patriots" -- not of the rah-rah-we-are-the-big-baaaad-Murkans-rah-rah kind.

14. It's the asses own fault. They can see by the polls that this is not
exactly a 95% repuke, conservative nation. They can see by 2000 vote that the Dems outnumber the repukes. But they insist on selling us repuke 24/7. Did they expect people would stay around?? Also, after all the turn out in primaries which is usually a dull season, did they think all these mad Dems would come to have these bastards attempt desperately to brainwash them?? I said it many many times that whomever is making these kinds of decisions at CNN should get fired and the smart 'host' would start doing a lot more 'liberal'. Hope a lot lose their jobs as inevitable shakeups come.

19. I really hope that CNN looks at those numbers and
realizes that an impeachment trial would dramatically increase viewers.

22. Excellent Point ~ Need a poll on CNN and FOX ratings
I would bet they follow Bush* down down down. Their credibility is just as shot as Bush*'s is. Bush* has zero Credibility now and it won't be long before they are in exactly the same boat. As long as they continue to whore for him they will have the same credibility. ~ ZERO

3. Hmmmmmm
Looks like Chimpy's song and dance ain't wowing them anymore. Another thing: the purported 308,000 jobs created in March have been met, at least here in Pittsburgh, with derision and questions of what upcoming Friday afternoon will be used to issue a big downward revision in those numbers by the Squatters at the WH.

15. and how many of those jobs are from Temporaries instead of
direct hires; and I understand a lot are in the building area. That is not only seasonal but once the interest rates go up we are going to have a shit pot of unemployed blue collar boys who are presently making a lot of under the table money in the building trades.

8. though only by a slight margin????? 47-43

Yes the margin is not that great but isn't it always a headline when disapprovals get higher than approvals????? Seems as if this is being kept mighty wuiet so far - let's see how many papers choose to highlight this result in the coming days.

10. I cannot fathom why they still support this illegal war
I guess their kids will have to be drafted before they wake up.
I have lost all respect for the US populace. I will never forgive them for this.

13. I think it's because, the worse things become, the more
people "think" Bush was right: Iraq is a threat. Better to kill 'em there than have them kills us here!

A bloody nightmare, is what this is.

21. Allright, I've been meaning to post this...
I think the polls showing support for the war means people support the troops. Americans don't want to be misread as anti-troop, so they don't vote anti-war. Fuzznuts* got us into a situation we can't easily get out of and Americans know it. The point I've been wanting to make involves the poll that says (or said) 75% of Americans think SH was involved in 9/11. I still hear people on the news confusing SH and OSL. I hear friends doing the same thing. Saying one when they mean the other. I really think this may be a factor in this particular poll. Just my opinion.

24. More Proof Gallup Is WAY OFF!!!
Gallup is probably the only recent poll that still has Bush*s approval above 50%....And this is the lowest I've ever seen. This has got to have Rove shaking...he can't control all of the polls out there.

bring back the draft, wake em up.
The American people have been asleep too long. If the media is gagged, maybe a good old fashioned draft will wake them up.

26. I fail to understand how any human being with any sense of honor or morals
can support this atrocity called the war on Iraq--it was a slaughter, and was a dishonoroable invasion based on lies. The lies were deliberate lies fostered in tandem by many on Bush's staff or in his cabinet--they all got the scripted message, and they all swore to the truth of the lies.

I just fail to understand how anyone can support this evil. I am disappointed in my fellow Americans. I perhpas have attributed certain intelligence or certain respect, undeserved it is now apparent, to those who do not deserve it at all. and that is indeed sad, for it demonstrates how stupid and how complacent many of our citizens are when it comes to human life or moral or anything like that.
