EuronewsHundreds of people, mostly youths, gathered outside Ostankino TV centre in Moscow on Saturday to protest against recent media coverage of ethnic clashes. Many chanted they were patriots and not fascists.
The rally followed last weeks violent clashes in the heart of the Russian capital, which saw dozens injured in a far-right demonstration.
The latest protest appeared to pass off relatively peacefully despite more than 800 people reportedly being arrested across the Moscow area.
Doubts have been raised about the government’s ability to cope with what appears to be a rising tide of xenophobia and in the capital’s Red Square, the scene of last week’s violence, police were not taking any chances. Authorities were out in force to crackdown on any potential unrest.
