Daily MailCHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A key state union official who supported Joe Manchin for Senate had some harsh words for his absence from key votes over the weekend.
Manchin cited a family obligation as the reason why he missed votes on the repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy against gay's serving openly in the armed forces and the Dream Act, which would have provided a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who came to the country as young children.
Kenny Perdue, president of the West Virginia AFL-CIO, blasted Manchin in a statement released Monday afternoon, saying his absence during the votes "isn't just a bad political maneuver, it is ineffective representation and leadership.
"Great senators make difficult decisions and they display courage and leadership in the face of adversity," Perdue said in the statement.
