Collective bargaining is target of next Ohio Senate
Source: Columbus Dispatch

State workers would lose collective-bargaining rights and local public employees, including teachers and police, would see their bargaining power weakened under legislation being drafted by a member of the Senate Republican leadership.

Gov.-elect John Kasich and Republican legislative leaders have said they plan to tackle Ohio's 27-year-old collective-bargaining law next session, and Sen. Shannon Jones, R-Springboro, said she will get the debate started quickly.

Allowing state workers to unionize "hamstrings us in our ability to manage our costs," Jones said. Eliminating collective bargaining "means we can start having real discussions about merit. People should be paid and promoted based on merit."

Jones said that although she is open to ending collective bargaining at the local level, for now she would keep it and push for changes. She would make binding arbitration less binding and allow fact-finders to give greater weight to certain information, particularly the ability of a school district or municipality to pay for a contract without additional taxes.

The Democrats in Ohio are more than happy to demonize and torture the Republicans in this state for the next two years but we're going to need some money.

This state is critical for 2012 and Kasich is a super asshole. We'll need help. I hope the DNC understands that and starts this project early next year.

1. What I find amazing
Is the fact that many union members probably voted for Kasich and the Republican ticket in Ohio, but I guess that's what happens when your vision is impaired by TeaBags!

the unions as another form of gubmint and their dues as taxes. They think they lose their money and that they get nothing in return.

They actually believe that their paid so well because their bosses value their work and see them as hardworking individuals, rather than the unions have always had their back.

I will say that Ohio is pissing into the wind if they take on the police unions...Cops tend to have long memories about that sort of thing...

6. "Merit" also known as
kissing ass, kissing up, brown-nosing, back-scratching, boot-licking, cajoling, courting, dancing attendance on, falling all over, fawning over, flattering, paying court to, sucking up to, sweet-talking, toadying to, winning over.

Fun times ahead.

7. Yep, I never learned how to
'merit.' I can't believe they want to make it a law for any employer to NOT pay more than 80% of an employee's health bill.

Kasich has no soul, no heart...just darkness and hate.

12. in the private sector, you get fired for crossing the boss' nephew
very few people get fired for incompetence.

Most of the time it is politics.

You better believe if government were run like the private sector, you'd see an abundance of politically motivated firings.

8. I had no idea that Cleveland didn't support
Strickland....rural vs. urban (divide and conquer).

I really like Strickland. The people of Cleveland will regret not going to the polls. BIG TIME.

I now live in Dumfukistan, the former state of Ohio.
