START likely to be approved
Source: CNN

(CNN) – At least nine Senate Republicans plan to vote for the START treaty, giving it enough support for Senate approval, according to a CNN estimate.

Senators prepared to cast a key procedural vote Tuesday on the new arms control treaty with Russia as backers and opponents of the accord made their final arguments.

Proponents of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, known as New START, received a potentially critical boost as a member of the Senate GOP leadership - Tennessee's Lamar Alexander - announced his intention to vote for the measure.

The treaty, if ratified, would resume inspections of each country's nuclear arsenal while limiting both the United States and Russia to 1,550 warheads and 700 launchers.

2. The real question is what did Obama have to give up in order
to get START through? Inquiring minds want to know.

3. Is that the real question?
I don't think so. START is not one of those deals. The obstructionism is just because the Republicans are engaging in obstructionism. This treaty is essential, so enough GOOPers will vote for it to assure its passage. The Republicans have made their own deal with themselves.

Your pessimism is misplaced, at least in this case, I think.

4. GOP support gives START the votes for ratification
Source: MSNBC

With a flurry of additional announcements this morning, there is now enough support from Republican senators to ratify the New START treaty, dealing another lame-duck session victory to the Obama administration in the final days of the 111th Congress.

Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee is also expected to announce his support for ratification on the Senate floor later today.

5. Shut up MSNBC: "dealing another victory to the Obama administration"
Republicans don't like that Obama looking good thing - so they are bound to sabotage it if you keep saying that.
