United Steel Workers: Silicon Anti-Dumping Ruling Saves U.S. Jobs

The United Steel Workers says a Department of Commerce trade ruling enforcing the payment of anti-dumping duties on silicon metals is a big win for workers. The USW fought efforts to drop the anti-dumping payments on silicon metal from China and Russia, showing it would harm American workers, costing good manufacturing jobs. USW spokesman Wayne Rannick.

: “First and foremost by winning we save some good manufacturing jobs for our members that produce silicon metal at two facilities, Globe Specialty in Niagra falls, New York - the other is at West Alloy, West Virginia. Secondly, the ruling really helps uphold the validity of trade law remedies. In many situations like this there are ways they can be circumvented and we were glad that here the FTC system did not allow the system to undermine anti-dumping or countervailing duty orders."
