State of emergency declared in L.A. County as officials tally storm damage
Source: LA Times

Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles, Kings and Santa Barbara counties in response to destructive rains this week.

State of emergencies were already declared in Kern, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo and Tulare counties.

The declarations came as work crews, residents and business owners traded sandbags for shovels Thursday to clean up after a week of storms that caused severe damage to at least 40 homes across Southern California and claimed one life.

Rescue crews shepherded dozens of stranded motorists and trapped residents to safety, but they could not reach Angela Marie Wright, 39, of Menifee, authorities confirmed Thursday.

Remember kiddies, they will keep getting mudslides for a few weeks, due to the water logged ground...

Oh and damage still keeps going up.

1. San Diego just took some collateral damage compared to LA
Mostly we had the usual cluster of morons who succumb to the urge to drive through the river that has magically appeared in front of their vehicle.

I always wonder if they are the ones who rant that people should have to pay for their own rescue services and if he still feels the same way after the Swift Water Rescue Team hauled his soggy ass to high ground.

4. I know.. we actually got some shellacking
on some major infrastructure (water, santee) and we yet to see the effects on the bridges over the San Diego River. A certain bridge might have washed away AGAIN.

Because of the water warnings and how it got overwhelmed I got bottled water.

7. Nope but that is why we have a filter
to treat water.

A very good filter.

8. Well, at least Arnold did something right.

He declared my county, San Luis Obispo, a disaster area, so I hope people whose homes and businesses got flooded will get some money help. The county also needs to improve on some of our infrastructure that gets tested at these times. I live on a hillside, but those people down in the lower elevations got flooded. A ravine that serves as a horse pasture that we drive by when we go into town was a big lake when I drove to the store yesterday. Fortunately, the horse owners had removed the animals before it got flooded.
