Polaris shutdown in Osceola begins March 1
Source: startribune.com

OSCEOLA, Wis. - Polaris Industries Inc. has told Wisconsin officials it will start shutting down operations at its plant in Osceola (ahss-see-OH'-luh) on March 1.

In a filing released Thursday by the Department of Workforce Development, Polaris says more than 480 employees will be affected as the plant in western Wisconsin shuts down over six months. The company says it's taking steps to minimize job loss and help employees with the transition.

The Medina, Minn.-based maker of snowmobiles, ATVs and Victory motorcycles announced plans last May for closing the plant and sending some of the work to Mexico in an effort to save money. This week's filing set the shutdown date.

Well ol' Jugears warned us, no not that one, Ross Perot warned us about that giant sucking sound, but nooo he's nuts. Too many charts and graphs.

We missed our chance and got NAFTA instead.

1. We missed our chance and got NAFTA instead.
I tried by voting for Perot in 92.

I knew deep inside that Clinton wanted to pass NAFTA even before his election.

3. The same Ross Perot...
that designed the computer software that controlled the flow of electricity through California’s enormous power grid? Ross Perot sold the same software to Reliant, Enron, Dynegy, Duke Power and other energy traders?

Perot had an intimate knowledge of the flaws in California’s deregulated electricity market and how to create "phantom" shortages that would drive up electricity demand, and how to divert electricity across state borders and then reimport it at prices four or five times higher than California’s capped prices. He made the tools available and it happened.

and the total denial of any wrong doing to the California state senate committee investigating energy market manipulation:

"You never compromise the highest ethical and moral standards in our company. That is not allowed," - Perot

6. Yet
From their annual report:

http://www.proxydocs.com/edocs/request?b=PII&paction=doc&action=showdoc&docid=204538&se=204538

Gross profit margins expanded 220 basis points to 25.1 percent, supporting a strong 50-basis-point improvement in net income margin.

Wonder how much of a bonus top management will get for screwing over the workers once again by sending some of the work to Mexico? At this rate, how many years before Mexico wants to build a fence to keep US workers from crossing the border looking for work?

8. There should be a law...
That if they manufacture snowmobiles in Mexico they have to sell their snowmobiles in Mexico. Oh wait, there are laws---they are called tariffs but hide under the bed and scare Republicans out of a sound sleep.

Although motorcycles do have a real application in transportation.

The article did not say the jobs were going to Mexico.

11. Perhaps you did not read the article.
A quote from it "sending some of the work to Mexico in an effort to save money." That sounds like the jobs are going to Mexico.

13. OK, now here's what I would do in my socialist..........
system. I'd give a government loan to the Union at that plant to keep them open and operating for 2 years or so MAKING THE EXACT SAME PRODUCTS. I would let the workers run the plant as a cooperative and COMPETE AGAINST THE CAPITALISTS THAT SHUT IT DOWN. That would keep the factory open and people in jobs for another couple of years and give the workers a chance to keep it open longer than that, IF they can compete with the bloated capitalists who shut it down. That would be a government that actually was FOR the people.
