keziEUGENE, Ore. -- The officers who shot an Army veteran in Santa Clara earlier in the month have been cleared.
The district attorney says the suspected gunman's actions were so unpredictable it left police with no other choice but to shoot.
The officers aren't the only ones cleared. The district attorney says this whole incident stems from Army veteran Michael Mason, 27, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. He says at no point did mason directly threaten. As a result, Mason won't be charged either.
"He made the best decisions throughout his young life right until a post-traumatic stress disorder prevented him from having the clarity," said Alex Gardner, Lane County District Attorney.
Nearly two weeks ago, Eugene Police shot Mason after he opened fire at the Valley River Center parking lot, and then led officers on a chase to a Santa Clara neighborhood.

Mason's sister also spoke of her brother's challenges when he got home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
"While we knew he suffered, we did not fully understand the depth of his hurt, pain or sorrow," said Sarah Mason.
Sarah Mason expressed her brother's remorse in a prepared statement and also talked about the obstacles he now faces, including dealing with his physical injuries. He's paralyzed from the neck down.
