Kucinich worries his district will be eliminated
Source: CNN

(CNN) – The state of Ohio will lose two congressional seats thanks to the latest U.S. Census figures, and liberal stalwart Dennis Kucinich is worried his seat is on the chopping block.

In an e-mail to supporters Wednesday, the seven-term Democratic congressman and two-time presidential candidate says the Republican-controlled Ohio legislature is likely to eliminate his heavily Democratic Cleveland-area district.

But Kucinich says he’s not just going to stand by while that happens.

“I will not wait until a new Ohio map is produced to begin this crucial discussion of the consequences of congressional redistricting,” writes Kucinich. “I will not wait until the Ohio Legislature produces a new map to start thinking of the options. The question will not be: Who is my opponent? The question will be: Where is my district? Seriously.”

He’s also calling on supporters for ideas on how to proceed:

“We are going to have to prepare for a different kind of election, possibly in a different place because my district may be eliminated. We are going to have to organize in a different way, now. The question will remain: Where? This discussion is consequential. Please participate by providing your insight and advice.”

1. That doesn't make a lot of political sense...
Cleveland is one of the most liberal parts of Ohio, so the Republicans would want to concentrate as many Democrats together, to reduce their impact in adjacent Republican districts.

6. The way that works here is that the heaviest Dem areas become
the center of a pie, scattering them to the edges of new districts which are then 70-30 Pub, rather than one 90-10 Dem and 5 90-10 Pubs.

Been going on here since the 80s and has finally gotten the supermajority the shitheads have been wanting for a long time in the Lege.

5. I hope he fights on, no matter what the district is
He is more Left than even his current district is, but he is a proven fighter and don't be surprised if he pulls something out of a hat.

7. Wish we could elevate his voice to the Senate floor!
No matter where this man goes.....we need his strong and clear voice for the people. He is a hero in his time; and this country can't afford to deafen his ideas and concerns. He was my choice for President.....but I'm happy with President Obama's progress.

10. Those aren't really Dems, they are here with an anti-Liberal message
to convince the masses that their "centrist" ways are the real Democratic base. Just a handful here, but they do make a disproportionate amount of noise to their numbers.

12. Years ago there was a Russian comedian
Yakov Smirnov was his name.

He had a couple of good lines. One was that he came to US, locked himself in a room for six months and watched tv to learn english. Then he found out he was watching Galavision.

He said every country has a city everyone makes fun of. In America, everyone makes fun of Cleveland. In Russia, and then he shrugged and said, yeah, we made fun of Cleveland there too.

15. Answer this
I know I have criticized Dennis, but I actually think he may need to move on up, the way his friend and former rival, Sherrod did.

The question is: could he run for Senate or a Governorship? Comments from Ohio Duers especially welcome.

I think if he could win wither of those posts, he would be ten time more effective, especially with Brown as a partner.

16. K&R - please frontpage this
instead of the week-old "Hal Turner goes to prison" story that's on the front page right now. So this looks like the first casualty in the Republican redistricting shift of the 2010s. Tom DeLay (whose sentencing got DELAYED!!!!) must be smirking right now.
