Alaska governor certifies Sen. Murkowski's re-election
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Alaska's governor on Thursday certified Sen. Lisa Murkowski's re-election in November as a write-in candidate, clearing the way for Murkowski to be sworn in on time for the new congressional session that starts next week.

Gov. Sean Parnell signed the paperwork certifying Murkowski as the election winner, a spokeswoman to the governor told CNN.

The papers now will go to Washington to be handed over to the Secretary of the Senate before noon Monday, the deadline for Murkowski to be able to get sworn in when the Senate convenes again on January 5.

Murkowski was defeated in the Republican primary in August by Joe Miller, a Tea Party-backed candidate. Murkowski then waged the write-in campaign in the general election in November to defeat Miller, who filed a lawsuit challenging the result.

1. Half a cheer
It looks like the basic affirmation of the electoral process, and the end of the ridiculous whining but the Tea Party candidate. Against that, she's still basically a Republican; but at least her votes in the lame duck session make it looks as though she'll vote as a sane Republican, rather than a member of the far right cult.

2. Yep.
During the lame duck Murkowski voted 'yes' with the democrats (on the important bills) than Snowe, Collins, or Brown did: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x62480
Hopefully she will stay a swing vote and not go back to aligning herself with the republicans all the time as she used to do.

3. LOL.. you'd never know that from Miller's website...
The first thing you see is the 5 myths about the election: "Lisa Murkowski and her friends in the media have misled you. They want you to believe that Joe has lost this election. Below, we dismantle 5 common myths going around...."

5. Alaska certifies Murkowski's write-in Senate victory
Source: Reuters

The state of Alaska certified Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski's victory over Tea Party favorite Joe Miller on Thursday, nearly three months after the incumbent won the race with an unconventional write-in campaign.

The certification document was signed in the state capitol in Juneau by Governor Sean Parnell and Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell, a spokeswoman for Parnell said.

"It's been certified. The governor signed the certificate and the lieutenant governor notarized it," Parnell spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said. "From there it gets on a plane tonight with Gail."

Division of Elections Director Gail Fenumiai will carry it personally to the Secretary of the Senate, who must receive it by noon Monday, Leighow said.
