President’s Re-Election Transition Begins With OFA (Organizing for America) Layoffs
Source: Roll Call

The Democratic National Committee’s Organizing for America has started laying off staff in multiple states as the first phase of a restructuring before the official kickoff of President Barack Obama’s re-election bid.

A Democratic source told Roll Call that party officials started notifying employees Sunday night and that the layoffs are mostly a handful of field staffers in some states as Democrats assess where they want to fight 2012 battlegrounds.

“This is likely the first wave in a series of staff reductions as we transition for the re-elect,” the Democrat said.

It was unclear how many staffers would be laid off or where they are from, but OFA had staff in all 50 states. The cuts were expected, but officials had told aides before Thanksgiving that they would all be kept on the payroll through the holiday season.

1. And the same thing has happened all over the nation in both parties after the election
They (OFA/Obama '12) will gradually start ramping up the number of paid staff to well exceed the number of people who worked for OFA.

Political consultants and low level campaign staffers know this, as that is how the business works. They essentially work on contract with a candidate, party, PAC, 527 or interest group for a gig and then move on to the next assignment.

2. Moving the power back to DC?
And away from the state parties? Dean tried to decentralize and give the people out of DC power. Back to the 18 state strategy.

3. Three states. Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
The next election is going to look a lot like 2000.

4. Yup. Once they see the R's fucking it up, they're going to go straight D's en-masse for 2012
so, in this case, the 18 state strategy might just work just this once.

Then once they see the problem, DLC will die, and the Dean era will begin...
