Congresswoman battles for life after shooting
Sun Jan 9, 2011 6:09am EST

By Tim Gaynor

TUCSON, Arizona (Reuters) - Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was battling for her life on Sunday after an assailant shot her in the head and killed six others as she met with constituents in Tucson.

The 40-year-old Democratic lawmaker was in critical condition and doctors were cautiously optimistic she would survive. The suspected gunman was in federal custody as investigators sought a motive in the rare shooting of a U.S. lawmaker and looked for a possible accomplice.

Giffords was shot once in the head with the bullet going "through and through," according to a trauma surgeon at the Tucson hospital where she was airlifted for surgery. "I can tell you at this time, I am very optimistic about her recovery," said Dr. Peter Rhee, medical director of the hospital's trauma and critical care unit. "We cannot tell what kind of recovery, but I'm as optimistic as it can get in this kind of situation."

"We can be shot down in our district, but we can also be shot walking over to the Capitol," Democratic Representative Maxine Waters of California told the Washington news outlet POLITICO. "We have a lot of people outside who appear to be fragile emotionally. So we don't know when one will walk up and shoot us down. We're vulnerable, and there's no real way to protect us."

2. If Palin and Rupert were not blowing the dog whistle for the crazies
to go out and shoot, people would not have to be dodging bullets.

Palin and Rupert have purposely riled up the Tea-bagger crazies just like they rile up the anti-abortion murderers, the anti-choice terrorists and the religiously insane.

They are giving each other high fives right now and arguing about who will pay the shooter's legal bills. Then they will send love letters to him in prison.

4. and Limbaugh
agree and Dr. Tiller was killed attending church service. Doesn't get more psychotic than that except for the finatic religious deemed the shooter a hero. The evidence imho is overwhelming. The instigating of the right should be investigated.

7. Sigh, I haven't been thinking about what Limpballs will say.
Oh, you know it's going to be vile, cruel and horrific. He will of course blame the victims and might even declare the murderer a hero. Wait and see how he mocks the dead child. He seems to be particularly hateful toward children and the disabled. You know the parents of the dead child are going to get blasted by him.

He will defend Palin and her calling for the shooting of Democratic politicians. He will declare it is all the liberals fault.

A funny thing, when I first heard of the shootings, I was on AOL news. AOL had identified Rep. Giffords as a RepubliCON. They later changed it but I think they knew she was a Democratic politician. It was 4 hours after the shooting. They misidentify the politicians on purpose so that low information voters are confused about it.

3. John McCain's Role
Do not forget that Sarah Palin is the creation of Arizona's own John McCain.

No one better to deal with a head wound like this.

How is government bad again, especially in relation to health care?

13. Mr Boner
How did Boner keep himself together? He didn't even cry when he made a statement about Gabrielle Giffords.
