Kate Middleton fetes last birthday as a commoner
Source: AP

Prince William's fiancee was on Sunday celebrating her last birthday before she officially becomes British royalty.

Royal officials said this week that Kate Middleton would be marking her 29th birthday privately, giving no further details.

Still, the event gave the nation's media a chance to talk about the princess in waiting. So too did fresh pictures of Middleton attending a wedding — this one of her friends Harry Aubrey-Fletcher and Louise Stourton, held on Saturday in the northern England village of Aldborough.

More at the link, although it's rather worthless. I'm only posting because I found it interesting that they referred to her (and by extension everyone else who isn't "royalty") as a "commoner". Isn't it way past time that we relegate this kind of language and these titles to the trash heap of history?

1. While we're at it we can get rid of "upper" and "lower" class as well.
And referring to negative things as "dark" or "black" (as in "black magic").

3. It's funny how the British Monarchy is held up to this standard as being modern...
but look at the other monarchies of the world; their members just really keep to themselves, go on about their lives and duties with little fanfare. THEY have modernized themselves, the British Monarchy is still living in the past.

Just my say because I have an interest in the subject. :)

2. The Establishment is really trying to push her onto people...
One day, a convenient booty call with no job, the next day "royalty". :eyes: She's suddenly supposed to be so newsworthy because she's marrying some Prince? What else has she done?

The next few months are going to be hard. :(
