FBI: Family of suspect in Giffords shooting blocking access to house
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 03:15 PM by Mark Maker
Source: AZCENTRAL

Family members of the suspect in the Gabrielle Giffords shooting on Monday blockaded themselves into their home north of Tucson and were refusing FBI agents' entry.

At about 12:25 p.m., agents began banging on the blockade built with 4-by-4 double-thick plywood, yelling, "This is the FBI. Let us in." The blockade is preventing access to the front porch of the home.

Some agents were sent behind the house, and media representatives could hear the agents talking with someone from inside the house.

It's not immediately clear why the family of Jared Loughner were preventing law enforcement entry. Loughner remains in custody and has an appearance in federal court later Monday.

1. The father seems to have mental health issues, too.
I hope the FBI has the sense not to shoot him.

19. Probably Local law enforcement searched
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 04:14 PM by pschoeb
This is FBI, they might want to search again, especially since a friend just revealed he kept a dream journal, if they found no such journal in the first search, it might be one thing they are interested in.

8. Well, this undoubtably adds a new dimenson for sure.
I have no idea how many people are in there or what exactly their "demands" are, but would it be controversial to say the story is "widening"?

I don't think so.

10. Far from it.....
with so many knowing that he was unstable, the parents had a responsibility to get him treatment....unless, of course, they need treatment.

I got lots of questions.

11. Wonder if they blockaded themselves to prevent media access
But you have to wonder about them from what some neighbors have said especially about the father's anger problems.

And strange they haven't issued any condolences. Most of the time parents have in the past.

29. Amazing!
Assuming the whole family is a bunch of teabagging nuts --- do these brainless fools ever figure out why their gov't salaries are OK to spend money on, but nothing else is? Even if the parents aren't teabaggers, there are lots and lots of other people being paid by the government who hate paying taxes. I know a couple who both worked for the military, with of course very-early retirement, with no exposure to combat at all, and who are insane tax-hating repigs. Needless to say, they aren't the brightest bulbs. To add icing to the irony, they love nature and going on hikes.

As Galbrath said, conservatism is a search for a moral grounding for selfishness. In this case, I think millions of these bas-t-ards living and voting in America right now pretty much GUARANTEES we'll be looking fondly at the economy of Bangladesh in a few years.

33. I think this guy's problems were beyond politics
he is a very sick young man.

I think you are correct about selfishness and greed, and where it may eventually lead us all, but there is plenty of passive greed and waste of resources on the left too.

38. False equivalence
I hate to see false equivalence on DU. The Left DOESN'T CLAIM it is holy. It doesn't claim that waste doesn't exist. It doesn't try to lower taxes while making a living cashing gov't checks.

Stop your false equivalence. There is enough of it on ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, Fox, all the newspapers, etc etc etc.

37. No need.
Only four or five companies own almost every news channel, radio station, newspaper, and news magazine in the U.S. And the NBC group is owned by General Electric, the nation's largest defense contractor.

39. The revised title fits the story better.
They put up plywood. Yesterday.

FBI shows up today. Access is blocked. But they weren't actively blocking access when the FBI showed up.

And people seem to think that tense-aspect semantics are meaningless.

As for the FBI's "intent," people assume their intent must be to search for something because they they've read in the media about a "dream journal" and if they were the FBI of course the only thing they'd be interested in is that journal. How limiting. If the FBI knocks on your door, even in this situation, it could be because they want to search for something--and then confiscate it. Or it might be that they want to question somebody based on new information they had. Or it might even be because they want to arrest somebody. And I can't rule out a 4th possibility.
