Arizona shootings: Obama plans visit to state
Source: Arizona Central

WASHINGTON - A senior administration official says President Barack Obama will travel to Arizona on Wednesday to attend a memorial service for the victims of last weekend's shooting rampage.

Democratic congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is in critical condition after being shot in the head Saturday. Six others died and more than a dozen were wounded outside a supermarket where Giffords set up a booth to hear the concerns of constituents.

Obama observed a moment of silence for the victims at the White House on Monday. He said the nation is shocked and grieving.

The administration official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the president's trip had not been publicly announced.

1. Did Pima grant Westboro a protest permit?
One would hope a Presidential visit would cancel that. One can only hope.

Just the thought of them picketing that little girl's funeral makes me want to vomit.

12. I don't think a presidential visit shuts down a whole city.
There is a relatively small security cordon, as there should be.

3. OK, that sends shivers
In 1963 I had just had orders cut for Germany when JFK was shot. One of my vivid memories is that he was warned NOT to go to Dallas because it was a hot bed of right wing extremists, and threats had been made.

6. I don't think this is wise--- for our President's protection, please don't go!
He is much safer here in DC where we love him, if not always agree with him.
