Lawmakers to head off picketing at Tucson funerals
Source: Washington Post

Arizona lawmakers are denouncing the church's plan to protest. They're modeling their legislation on an Ohio law that has been upheld in court.

1. Well bless their hearts.
Now how long have these sick fuckers been protesting at Soldiers funerals? I'm glad they are going to do something but couldn't this have been a priority a lot sooner?

8. Sometimes I wonder with all of this....
"God" lets idiots like Phelps live to a ripe old age and lets a 9yr old die by a gunshot. *Shaking head* :sarcasm:

10. Anyone have a link to the actual bill?
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 10:02 AM by Javaman
There are tons of links about how the bill was signed into law, but no a single one sites the actual bill.

The only two that I have been able found when I google "Arizona bill funeral protest" are SB 1101 which deals with gun regulations (2010)and HB 2101 which deals with election regulations. (2009)

the bill that is being tauted as a "solution" to this problem is SB 1101.

If there has been a rewrite of this bill, I would love to see it.

Until then, while I find the westboro asshole despicable for their protests, it's still constitutionally protected.

And if this bill actually was written into law, I believe the ACLU will be filing against it very soon. Which I will support.

Because once you open the door to who can protest when and where, then where does it stop? Or have all you forgotten about the "free speech zones" during the republian national convention?

"I may not agree with what you believe, but I will support your right to say it to the death".
-Voltaire.

Upon edit: it appears as if an "emergency clause" was added.

I find it very amusing that those who champion 2nd amendment rights would be for the passage of the bill. While I don't own a weapon, I do find it interesting that this clause was attached to a bill that puts in heavy regulations on gun use and sales.

I'm still looking for the added clause. Nothing in on the web yet.
