About 400 Romanian army and police retirees protest pension cuts

BUCHAREST, Romania — About 400 army and police retirees are protesting in Romania against cuts in pensions as part of austerity measures.

Protesters in the Black Sea port of Constanta are calling Monday for the resignation of the country's president Traian Basescu.

They say some payments were slashed in half after the government introduced pension reform.

Former army and police employees call the cuts illegal and humiliating. Last week they filed a complaint with the country's prosecutor against the prime minister and other officials.
