Bill Clinton to campaign in Chicago for Emanuel
Source: Washington Post

Former President Bill Clinton is coming to Chicago Tuesday to campaign for mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel, but his visit is the cause of some controversy.

While the former White House chief of staff hopes Clinton can persuade voters to cast their ballots for him Feb. 22, a former mayoral contender has warned that Clinton is risking his popular standing with the African American community by backing Emanuel rather than a black candidate.

3. Bill is risking his popular standing with the African American community?

In 2008 didn't the community throw him and his wife under the bus in favor of the new kid on the block? So now Bill should not support Emmanuel because he's white???? I see, it's not about electing the best candidate for the job, it's about the race of said candidate. Well, that explains a lot of things.

I can just imagine the outrage if a white politician had made a similar statement about not supporting white candidates.

Unbelievable.........

8. Here's Davis' entire quote.
Davis said in his statement:

"While we recognize the right of any individual to endorse and support any candidate that they so choose, I am seriously concerned and disturbed by press reports that former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to come to Chicago to campaign for Rahm Emanuel, who is a candidate for Mayor.

"The African American community has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the Clintons, however it appears as though some of that relationship maybe fractured and perhaps even broken should former President Clinton come to town and participate overtly in efforts to thwart the legitimate political aspirations of Chicago's Black community.

"We respectfully request and urge former President Clinton not to become involved in the Chicago Mayoral Election."

Not to be outdone, here are Carol Moseley Braun's quotes:

“Bill Clinton is an outsider parachuting in to support another outsider. Rahm’s residency status continues to be challenged in court. It’s not yet clear that he will be on the ballot. At the same time former president Clinton risks his legacy and the great respect that he has enjoyed among African Americans by coming to Chicago to endorse Rahm Emanuel who is running for mayor against two black candidates.

Reminds me of the primaries in 2008, same mind set, but the Clintons were the ones labeled "racists".

"long and fruitful relationship." Why didn't the writer, Don Babwin (of AP), give us the full quote? Seems questionable, at best. I'm reserving judgment.

Anyway, Rahm will probably win.

Sigh.

Bill campaigned for Martha Coakley in the Mass. Senate primary. She won over U.S. Rep. Mike Capuano, who, with Kennedy, voted against the DLC supported Iraq invasion and Patriot Act, even though he risked the nationalistic hysteria in the wake of 911. Then, Coakley lost to the Brown turd.

Sigh.

Of course, Mike could have lost, too. He's not slick or charismatic, just a good guy. Seems we have little use for those in D. C. nowadays.

Sigh.
