Italy PM Silvio Berlusconi prostitute allegations widen
Source: BBC

Italian prosecutors have alleged that Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had sex with a "significant number" of young prostitutes.

In a request to search some of Mr Berlusconi's properties, they cited allegations that he had paid the women or given them free use of apartments.

The prosecutors are investigating whether Mr Berlusconi paid to have sex with a 17-year-old nightclub dancer.

Mr Berlusconi says he has never paid for sex.

5. In defense of Italian politics,
believe it or not, Italian politics is not as corrupt as you think, otherwise the judiciary would have never gotten this far. As an Italian, I know my country has a lot of issues and peculiarities and, while certainly there is a level of corruption inside government (as there is in the U.S. to a certain extent), it certainly does not reach the levels that people think.

If Italian politics were really corrupted and rotten, I guarantee you that no one would dare investigate Berlusconi.

6. Is it true Mussolini is still admired there?
I once read something about how Mussolini is still admired in Italy because he gave Italians a sense of unity, and that Italian culture is very fractured and divisive against each other.

8. No, it's not.
I lived in Italy and travel back there frequently.

Italy's "division" exists between the rich North and the poorer South. It's not unlike America in that the wealthier regions support the poorer ones with their taxes and this causes all kinds of resentment on both sides.

Again, Italy has it's problems, but they are no worse than the ones we have here.

12. When I look at your question ...
I recognize it is a very broad statement - 'There' .....

In no place will you find EVERYBODY doing or thinking something, or EVERYBODY NOT doing or thinking something ....

Mussolini is admired by a few, but despised by most .... In Italy and the world ...

9. Di dove sei in Italia?
Ho habito nel Veneto in 2003-2004. Era un tempo imbarazzante d'essere una americana. Ho dovuto dire sempre il "Non ho votato per Bush! "

7. No more corrupt than ours really.
Berlusconi basically the Italian Cheney (manipulating the government and the economy to enrich himself and his cronies.)

Before we go calling out other countries, we should look to our own house and recognize that American politics is just as big a cesspool.

2. Prosecutors Seek to Search Berlusconi Offices .
Source: WSJ

ROME—Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi financially supported and slept with a "significant number" of prostitutes, according to prosecutors who are seeking authorization from Parliament to search the billionaire's offices in Milan.

In the request, part of a prostitution case involving an under-age Moroccan woman, Milan's chief prosecutor, Edmondo Bruti Liberati, said prosecutors are seeking to obtain documents and computer files from one of Mr. Berlusconi's offices on the outskirts of Milan. The request was posted on Parliament's website Monday after being made Friday.

Mr. Bruti Liberati said prosecutors believe the documents show that members of Mr Berlusconi's entourage gave gifts and cash to many women, including Karima El Mahroug, a Moroccan teenager nicknamed "Ruby."
