60% call for police at townhalls
Source: The Hill

A vast majority of voters want lawmakers to continue meeting constituents following the shooting of a congresswoman this month, but also want police protection at those events, according to a new poll commissioned by The Hill.

An overwhelming 91 percent of voters said it’s “very important” or “somewhat important” that members of Congress continue hosting public forums in the wake of the Jan. 8 shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and 18 others in Tucson, Ariz., the poll found. But 60 percent said police should be present for those gatherings.

8. We have had a few county board meetings where law
enforcement was present. There was a group who tried to overturn a renovation decision by the county board. They were loud and contentious, but I don't think they ever threatened anyone. I was surprised, but I think it was for the best that a couple of cops were there. I don't have a problem with it.

2. Things get more contentious when police get involved
Why? Because they need to justify their jobs by finding a reason to arrest, subdue or beat someone.

Hey.... but if everybody's packin', then they are all protected from the tyranny of the police, right?

4. But in this state (AZ) ...
those crying loudest for a police presense are the very one's crying about a .05% tax increase to provide for, among other things, public safety. Go figure.

5. Isn't there usually?
I mean at least here when there are large gatherings it's mandatory to have things like police and fire on the premises.

7. I'd rather have police providing security than a bunch of private citizens carrying guns doing it.

13. Good idea
Last townhall meeting I attended, the League of Women Voters moderator tried to enforce the ruls but the repubs would not listen. She gave up trying to enforce the rules. I was concerned how bad things would get. After it was over a woman did flip out and start yelling but they were able to guide her out of the hall - yelling all the way.

The wealthiest neighborhood in my town have had to have a deputy for their homeowner's association meetings.
