H-Post Editor Bows to Bankers and CUTS TIES to Reporter Who Helped Expose Them
Source: Daily Kos

by PaulVA

Yesterday, after hearing from officials from the Mortgage Bankers' Association, Peter S. Goodman, a business editor at the Huffington Post, decided to take it upon himself to FIRE Mike Elk, a labor reporter in Washington, DC who covered and helped break a story that exposed their lobbying for a back door bailout.

While the Huffington Post in the past has based itself on its liberal credentials and independence, practices like these threaten to ruin its credibility.

Peter Goodman, the author of a recent story that paid homage to China's unfair trade practices, fired Elk after receiving complaints from representatives of the Mortgage Bankers' Association.

The Huffington Post was able to break this story thanks to unlimited access afforded to it by Elk who accompanied 200 construction workers who broke into a Mortgage Bankers Association summit in Washington, DC. The workers demanded to know why PulteGroup, fresh off a consumer fraud settlement in Arizona, had an executive chairing the summit and what the company did with a $900 million bailout received through the Worker, Homeownership and Business Assistance Act of 2009. The act was intended to create jobs and extend benefits to jobless workers but, according to Pulte's CEO, was instead used for land acquisition and debt restructuring.

FULL story at link.

19. Andrew Breitbart helped to develop HuffPo
According to this month's Vanity Fair. So this news is not surprising to me.Arrianna was a republican before she was a democrat.Noticed the way they "moderate" on HuffPo?

Andrew Breitbart developed the video that took ACORN down.

Glenn Beck is saying that Frances Fox Piven is responsible for the financial debacle in America. She is an elderly professor who helps people receive welfare benefits who are eligible to receive them. She also works to help people vote who are eligible. Andrew Breitbart worked that meme up too.

See the connection?

8. Arriana Huffington needs to either explain or fire Goodman and
rehire Elk.

Raw Story would not allow this. Nor would TPM. There are alternatives to the Huffington Post. These include McClatchy News to some extent and other news media.

12. I've wondered about Ariana's views on Powerful Women...since the place looks like
"Playgirl" with bodice ripping photos and torrid headlines.

But...if you click to the HuffPost "Business Tab" you can avoid the crap on the front page...although you will miss some good articles that are way over on the left side in teeny-tiny print.

I don't know what's with her...but she does have a business partner and I guess he's helping her make money with the "soft porn" and National Enquirer headlines.

She will lose more viewers with this firing. :-(

11. Need to fire Goodman and keep Elk under contract. Then in future they could say:

"Well hell, Elk isn't an employee. He's under contract but we don't control him. Don't complain to us if you don't like haveing the truth revealed about your organization."

This is how corporations do it. "Well, their subcontractors. IF they blew up you house/neighborhood/state don't blame us, they're just our subcontractor. We don't tell them how to do their job. We just tell them get it done." (any fucking way they can)

Recommended.

17. Elk wasn't an employee in the first place. I think that's the problem.
Edited on Fri Jan-21-11 04:49 PM by SteppingRazor
At least from HuffPo's end, they're saying he represented himself as a reporter with the Huffington Post, when he wasn't. He was an unpaid blogger.

Full disclosure: I, like Elk, am an unpaid blogger at the HuffPo. But unlike him, I've still got a login and a password, so you should certainly take what I say with a grain of salt.

38. Boy, do I like that idea. And as far as the charges that someone is not
A "journalist" unless they are working for one of the M$M organizations, I would not agree with the people suggesting that.

In fact, one of the things I hate about budgeting my income right now is that I cannot afford the paltry bucks to "In These Times," where Elk was a reporter.

22. most truly don't understand the actual level of control at all levels that international banks have
The media, the straight-jacketing monetary system (private, corporate, municipal, sovereign, etc. debt), food, water, energy, military, political, surveillance, technology, education, global drug trade, health care, etc etc. The tentacles extend into the whole bio-sphere of the planet, at all levels, much of it seemingly indirect, yet all flowing up to a centralizing power matrix.

28. HP is a CIA info outlet.
They never touch 911. It's a sham to keep us entertained but distracted. Like wikileaks....total controlled BS.

89.5 Germans don't believe the 911 COVER-UP. About the same AMERICANS probably believe the same. Any outlet that won't at least acknowledge WTC bldg #7 and the 911 MYTH is controlled. BUILDING WHAT?, ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS FOR TRUTH are never covered. Until we start by exposing the biggest crime in U.S.(or WORLD) history, the original lie that took us into PERPETUAL war with no intention of winning. It is the "Holy Grail" of lies and we are doomed until we put cheney/bush/rice/rummy/wolfy and whoever ran the Mossad side of things in jail. (just look on youtube "5 Dancing Israelis" These 5 'art students' were ARRESTED AND DEPORTED after being turned in for filming the 911 attacks in New York, the had a white van with a camera on a tripod ON TOP of it, dancing and hi-5ing each other as the Twin Towers fell. They were later identified as Mossad agents, not 'art students'. They went on Israeli Tv and during the interview they said they had nothing to do with the 911 attacks, they were just there to 'document the event.' HELLO!!! HELLOO!!!! WHO sent them to set up a camera and DOCUMENT and event that no one knew was going to happen? This is not "theory" It's on youtube, look it up. We have traitors that we have not sent to jail. We deserve what we get for doing NOTHING.Huffington Post is a tool.

32. Huff Post has been making me crazy for several months...
Yup! There is SOMETHING not right at the HP.

One thing that just steams me is that it seems like
it is "all Palin, all the time"...article after article
about Palin. I always post in the comments to stop giving
the Saint free press...funny, all those posts get deleted.

I also have questioned their headline article many times. When
it seems that there are other pressing matters to Democrats, Liberals
and Progressives, they have some story about Iraq or Afghanistan.

...something seems to have changed.

As far as what the M$M is really all about, I carefully documented my experiences with it here:

It's kind of looking like they really want to make sure it stays that way, too. Get too controversial and Arianna might not get on the TV as much anymore.
