VV Daily PressVICTORVILLE • An anti-abortion protest by a pro-life group planned for Friday outside Sultana High School has prompted school officials to alert parents of the event and call in extra police support.
On Thursday parents received an automated phone call from Principal Larry Bird notifying them that a peaceful anti-abortion protest was scheduled to begin around 1:30 p.m., shortly before school lets out around 1:51 p.m. He said the protest had nothing to do with Sultana or Hesperia Unified School District, and that he would have an increased police presence on campus to ensure a safe environment.
Parent Cheryl Talkington said she’s concerned about the potentially graphic images the group may be handing out to students.
“Everybody has the right to their free speech, obviously, but why do you do it at a high school?” Talkington said. “The place to be for those people is an abortion clinic if that’s what they’re so worried about.”
