Controversial Muslim cleric caught being smuggled into U.S. over Mexico border
Source: UK Daily Mail

U.S. border guards got a surprise when they searched a Mexican BMW and found a hardline Muslim cleric - banned from France and Canada - curled up in the boot.
Said Jaziri, who called for the death of a Danish cartoonist that drew pictures of the prophet Mohammed, was being smuggled into California when he was arrested, along with his driver Kenneth Robert Lawler.

The 43-year-old was deported from Canada to his homeland Tunisia in 2007 after it emerged he had lied on his refugee application about having served jail time in France.

16. The Daily Mail is a bigoted anti-immigrant extreme RW source...
Edited on Fri Jan-28-11 09:55 PM by Violet_Crumble
It's very similar to posting something from an extreme RW US source like that Townhall.com or whatever here in LBN. You should either find a reputable source for the story in the OP or approach it with a massive grain of salt.

5. Maybe he heard too many repub commercials last year about our "porous" border
and thought it would be easy. Sorry, Said, it's never wise to take advice from a posturing repub.

Said Jaziri's deportation case drew attention in Canada three years ago
because the imam's views were disliked by many in that country.

Jaziri is being held as a material witness in the criminal case against the BMW's driver, Kenneth Robert Lawler, who has been charged with alien smuggling. He is at the San Luis Detention Facility near Yuma, Ariz., according to his attorney, Wayne Charles Mayer. His bond has been set at $25,000.

In Quebec's large Muslim community, Jaziri stood out for his outspoken views, and though his mosque was small, he drew outsized media attention for his strict interpretation of the Koran. Jaziri labeled homosexuality a sin and pushed for government subsidies to build a large mosque for Montreal's growing Muslim population.

According to the court documents, a Mexican foot guide led Jaziri and a Mexican immigrant over the border fence near Tecate, and they trekked overnight through the rugged back country to a road where drivers frequently pick up immigrants for smuggling runs into San Diego.

Border Patrol agents, alerted by firefighters who saw the two immigrants get into the car's trunk, pulled the driver over near the Golden Acorn Casino about 50 miles east of San Diego. Jaziri told agents that his journey had been a long one: He had taken a flight from Africa to Europe, then to Central America and Chetumal, Mexico, on the Mexico-Belize border, where he took a bus to Tijuana.

Just goes to prove you have to be an American citizen to make the "No Fly" list.

7. This is just another example of the good job that the Obama Administration is
doing policing our borders. The GOP gives a lot of lip service to border enforcement, but Obama is going a much better job than Bush did. This exposes just another Republican lie.

8. You have to wonder what he was thinking - like regardless of whether he was headed to Canada
or planned to stay in the US, I expect the authorities would notice him the first time he shot his mouth off.

18. Let Him Rot In Jail
If entering the U.S. illegally is a crime, and is punishable by incarceration, then I think we should lock him up for as long as the law allows. One less hate preacher is a good thing, even for awhile.
