Parks to File for Mayoral Race
The L.A. councilman and ex-police chief will begin fundraising as he explores a bid to unseat Hahn.

By Jessica Garrison and Patrick McGreevy, Times Staff Writers

Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard C. Parks said he would file papers today and begin fundraising for an "exploratory" bid to unseat Mayor James K. Hahn, the man who denied him a second term as police chief two years ago.

"There is a vacuum in leadership," said the councilman, one of several Los Angeles politicians mulling a run against a mayor who many say has been weakened by federal and county probes into his administration's contracting practices.

Parks, who won a City Council seat a year ago after losing a bitter public battle to keep his job as police chief, expressed concern about allegations that some members of Hahn's administration might have shaken down city contractors for campaign contributions.

1. Yes! Bernard Parks for Mayor

I am thrilled to see the announcement about Council member Parks running for Mayor!!!

James Hahn is NOT his father. Supervisor Kenneth Hahn was an icon in the Los Angeles community and a legend in his own time.

Bernard Parks really cares about this city.

2. Hahn is a dimwit
I swear, Jim Hahn is so inept I doubt he can count past ten without taking his socks and shoes off. While in office, his ineptitude almost divided Los Angeles into FOUR seperate cities. Let's not forget the 35 day transit strike that paralyzed this city.

Also, this dimwit ran the same racist campaign against Villaraigosa as Yorty ran against Bradley. He should have been recalled on a charge of stupidity...
