3 fires in an hour in (SF's gay) Castro; arson suspected
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

Three fires that broke out within about an hour of each other today in the San Francisco's Castro neighborhood may have been the work of an arsonist, a fire official said.

The most damaging of the blazes broke out just after 5 a.m. at an apartment building at 3620 16th St. It grew to two alarms, and by the time it was out about an hour later, the 17 residents had been displaced, said Mindy Talmadge, a Fire Department spokeswoman.

... Fire officials believe the three fires are suspicious because of the close time and proximity involved.

2. the crazy thing is -- the castro isn't the gay place it was.
we fixed it up and then lots of straight families moved in.

so it's weird when that kind of stuff goes on there -- you're too late bastards!

5. Let me see;
San Fransisco wants to ban Yellow Page books unless requested. AT&T will lose a hundred million if this is passed. I'm just suggesting another route this investigation could take other than closet Republican gays getting upset about something. Then again, who knows there whereabouts of Larry Craig and other prominent Republicans who HAVE been outed? They possibly have motive and means. We could give the cops an opportunity.

8. the only reasonable explanation
we've had 30 or so cases of arson se of here in the last year or so. Sometimes it's just an arsonist.

6. Thank goodness no one was injured... residents not only lose
their apartments, but in most instances, their rent-controlled apartments. In San Francisco this is a big change-of-life scenario.

9. My neighborhood, very creepy, losing your rent-controlled apt means maybe leaving the city
It's being tossed out of your home by some arbitrary occurrence and not being able to replace it with anything equivalent if you want to stay in SF. And in this case after having lost your possessions.

10. Given the location it may be trashy clientele from the several new bars that have sprung up
Every night, especially on weekends you hear young people screaming, yelling, slamming car doors, breaking glass all down the street between 2-4am after these places let out. It used to be much quieter here. I live within 1 block of where these fires occurred.

11. Conservative groups warp the minds of our young...
To believe that they are unnatural, to believe that different is unnatural, to believe that "gay" is to be feared for its difference from the "norm". In doing so, they gain people who will support them monetarily. What a world we live in. (*Shakes head*)
