9/11 Panel: Bush White House Withheld Papers [WaPo] |
|
The commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks announced yesterday that it has identified 69 documents from the Clinton era that the Bush White House withheld from investigators and which include references to al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden and other issues relevant to the panel's work.
The White House turned over 12 of the documents to the commission yesterday, officials said. But 57 others, which were not specifically requested but "nonetheless are relevant to our work," remain in dispute, according to a commission statement.

2. Does anyone believe that the papers they eventually see will be original? |
|
If they wanted to, they've had plenty of time to do to the 9/11 papers what they did to Bush's military records. You see what they want you to see.

11. I rely on the Big Dog's memory.... |
|
He will be interviewed soon and they underestimate him way too much. His memory in phenomenal! I imagine Bill sitting there saying "I said this and it should be on this page, where is it?" :)

of Clinton at this juncture is so important in thinking through the lengths this administration has gone through in withholding information regarding important matters, e.g., Al-Quaeda, Saudis, Ken Lay, Medicare...and the list goes on. A witch hunt first on Whitewater properties, a subsequent witch hunt regarding the morality of a president's penis and the tales to be told, or not to be told, and these guys, especially Bush and Cheny, are not impeachable??? :WTF: Damn the Rethugs! And double damn the venal Dems who have not stood up for truth in the last three years! I will vote for Kerry...make no doubt about that...but once we have a Democratic party leader in the Presidency again, how will that all go with the right-wing controlled media and the rethug-controlled Cogress and House? We need more Dems in the house, more Dems in Congress, if we are to have actual representation regarding a true democracy.

9. Revolting! Note also, Rice will say Bush "fully engaged" -- |
|
for the thousand-millionth time!
"Aides said Rice will provide some new details about White House actions on terrorism before the attacks, and will portray Bush as fully engaged on the issue going back to his inauguration in January 2001."

10. at least they're being called on it |

although I doubt it will do any good before November. Don't forget that Bush signed his little secrecy law as one of his first acts.

14. This is information that could contradict Rice's testimony... |
|
...and make the Clinton administration look better in fighting terrorism. That's why they're holding this stuff back. A side by side comparison could make the Bushies look very bad.

15. Significant quote from article: |
|
"I've never seen the atmosphere that exists in Washington right now; it's the nastiest I've ever seen it," said Kean, a former Republican governor of New Jersey who has been out of politics for more than a decade. He said he wants the commission members to ask "tough questions" but not be partisan. "That's a tough line to walk sometimes."

Declaring that the Clinton papers hardly mentioned al Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden?
Now I guess we know why.
