Hospital Chief: Over 280 Iraqis Killed (400 Wounded - Fallujah - AP)

More than 280 Iraqis have been killed and 400 wounded this week in the U.S. Marines' siege of insurgents in this city west of Baghdad, the director of Fallujah's hospital said Thursday.

Taher Al-Issawi told The Associated Press that the toll was likely higher.

"We also know of dead and wounded in various places buried under rubble, but we cannot reach them," because of fighting, he said.

The U.S. assault on Fallujah began early Monday, when Marines surrounded the city of 200,000 people. Since then, U.S. forces have been waging heavy street battles, using warplanes and tanks against Sunni insurgents dug in heavily populated neighborhoods.

At least three Marines are known to have been killed since the operation began, but commanders have not given an official toll.

Speechless... and this is just one town. When will they release the real numbers on coalition casualties? And where are the civilian casualty numbers? I'm thankful for the AP, for somehow evading the Fallujah media blackout and speaking with the doctor.

3. How many people will we have to kill in Fallujah before they the people
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 03:11 AM by anarchy1999
of the town, cry uncle and bow down before their occupiers?

This is a crime and I hope I have the strength within me to make sure that I see my government and the people that let this happen be tried and sentenced for war crimes.

I have known what is happening now was going to happen here in Fallujah since last April, when our troops fired upon a crowd that had gathered to protest the US troops occupation of the school. That day, many were killed and injured, two - three days later it happened again. Since then, in Fallujah, it has been nothing but a disaster. Much like how we all felt when our Supreme Court made GW, King.

Sorry for bringing this up, but, does this scene just not sound, just a little too familiar. Think of another country in the Mid-East. There, I'm sure you've got it. By the way, who has been helping to train our forces in occupation?

4. Loud-speaker calling for blood donations from Baghdad --
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 03:14 AM by DeepModem Mom
Incredible visual from Sky News UK: Correspondent David Chater reporting live from a Baghdad rooftop, with a voice from a Mosque loud-speaker heard in the background, pleading for blood donations for the people of Fallujah.
