Egypt VP: Protests cannot be allowed to go on long
Source: Associated Press

CAIRO – Vice President Omar Suleiman warned Tuesday that "we can't put up with" continued protests in Tahrir for a long time, saying the crisis must be ended as soon as possible in a sharply worded sign of increasing regime impatience with 16 days of mass demonstrations.

Suleiman said there will be "no ending of the regime" and no immediate departure for President Hosni Mubarak, according to the state news agency MENA, reporting on a meeting between the vice president and the heads of state and independent newspapers.

He told them the regime wants dialogue to resolve protesters' demands for democratic reform, adding in a veiled warning, "We don't want to deal with Egyptian society with police tools."

At one point in the roundtable meeting, Suleiman warned that the alternative to dialogue "is that a coup happens, which would mean uncalculated and hasty steps, including lots of irrationalities. We don't want to reach that point, to protect Egypt."

It looks like 'CIA' Suleiman is getting us ready for something and it's not going to be good.

3. Uh-oh
Well - here is the pickle....the protestors WANT the regime to end, and be replaced with a democratic model.

Democratic reforms that will not allow the regime to be replaced - are not reforms at all - just window dressing to empty the square.

6. Go ahead, sucker
Crush these freedom seekers and you will unleash the pent of fury of millions of Egyptians.

And when you do and the smoke clears you will be dead meat.

And your hero Mubarak will be as dust cast to the farthest corners.

You are the main engine of damage to Egypt and since you cannot accept that it looks like you will attempt to destroy your country just to keep yourself in power, you witless piece of crap.

9. I feel your passion, believe me, but
the fix is in.OUR government has come down on Mubarak side .The side of "stability".I HOPE I am wrong but will confidently predict here the Mubarak regime will crush the uprising .Mubarak had too much time to recover and the tide is changing in his favor .Many Egyptians who might have joined are afraid, with good reason, that they will be hunted down and tortured and /or killed by the thugs that run the country.Obama/Clinton,despite their strong words in public, are assuring the regime in private "we have your back".Bet on it.Watch you will see..........................

10. Too much is at stake for the tptb in the region; in the world
for the revolt to prevail. You can't have the eaters getting all uppity and energized believing that they can conquer their oppressors. This is not going to end well. The Regime is dug in, it will turn violent eventually with the military turning on the people. Once they have their orders it is on and crackin'. It makes me sick to my stomach.

13. Watch and see.
The present leadership is incompetent and could not wipe their own asses with a map to guide them. And I do mean both the US and Egypt.

11. Of Course You Are Right

That would be what Israel would probably want and the US never goes against them.

12. Crush the uprising?
That may well be so. The regime may well try to crush these freedom seekers.

But if they do it will spell their end coming sooner. The people of Egypt, having finally tasted some power, will not go away with mere crumbs. No, the people have just begun to fight and the PTB will end up feeding them what they desire: The heads of the PTB.

7. for some strange reason,
the idea that the Mubarack regime wants dialogue sounds a bit like a "spin" . The other think is, do you think the Shah of Iran wanted a better dialogue with those that caused him to flee? A better dialogue with SAVAK in charge maybe?

I agree, no good will come of this. Soon the curtain will go down and for a few days there will be no reportage.
