Rice Defends Bush Efforts to Combat Terrorism
National Security Adviser Acknowledges Preparations Were Insufficient

By William Branigin and Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, April 8, 2004; 1:45 PM

Some of the most contentious exchanges came over an Aug. 6, 2001, "presidential daily brief," a still-classified document that Rice confirmed under questioning had as its title, "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States."

Rice insisted that the document contained "historical information" and "did not in fact warn of any coming attacks inside the United States."

In one of the more contentious exchanges, Rice and commission member Bob Kerrey, a former Democratic senator and governor of Nebraska, repeatedly interrupted each other as Kerrey tried to elicit answers on why the Bush administration did not respond to the suicide bomb attack in Yemen on the USS Cole in October 2000 and take action in response to a Jan 25, 2001, memo from counterterrorism adviser Richard A. Clarke on ways to deal with the al Qaeda threat.

"We were not presented with a plan," Rice said.

"That's not true," Kerrey interjected. As Rice launched into a lengthy explanation, he added, "Please don't filibuster me. That's not fair."

1. The PDB Title IS A FUCKING WARNING IN AND OF ITSELF!!!
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 01:14 PM by Beetwasher
Smoking Gun...Release the memo and let the public decide if it was merely a document containing historical information...

The first two sentences in that article are mind numbingly Orwellian. First they show the title, which is clearly A WARNING. And then they have Condi saying the memo had no warnings...:eyes: I think she's fucked...

2. Historical Document?
rove and company came up with a duzy! No warning in this document. No warnings given by Mr Clarke. No warnings anywhere. And yet, and yet - bush took everything seriously (while he was on vacation).
