Kerry Urges Bush to be Bold, Honest on Iraq (Reuters)
http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=848373&tw=wn_wire_story

Excerpt:

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Democratic challenger John Kerry called on Thursday for humility and common sense on Iraq and urged President Bush to make a bold and honest appeal for help to end the chaos.

Fierce fighting not seen since the fall of Saddam Hussein a year ago has raged in Iraq over the past week, as U.S. forces battle both Sunni and Shi'ite militants. At least three dozen American soldiers have been killed since last weekend.

Kerry, a decorated veteran of the Vietnam war, told a town hall meeting in Milwaukee on his economic agenda that he had just seen powerful television images of bloodied American Marines in Iraq scrambling out of their ruined tank.

"It would be inappropriate for me to come here and not say something about what is happening in Iraq and what it means to all of us," he said. "We come here first and foremost to say to our troops how proud we are of them ... even as they carry out a difficult task and a difficult policy."

2. By the way
the term "major" was added later - by Winston Smith of the Ministry of Truth.. we've got the additions to the White House and DOD pages that occured LATER on Take Back the Media..

yet it's still being used, I like to call it "Pre-emptive Revisionism" when they do it :)

GO KERRY, tell that schmuck to be humble.. like telling a Fridge to JUMP lol..

3. Well, I'll take "major" right out of it then...
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 03:18 PM by VolcanoJen
Winston is one busy little bee, I'm sure... :-(

So, should it just say "Combat Operations have ended?"

ON EDIT: I took the whole line out, until I can discover the truth. :-) Now it just says "Remember May 1st, 2003."

4. Wasn't it in the headline?
He said "major" in the speech test, but the WH.gov website just had "Combat Operations in Iraq have ended"

7. Possible origin of the headline: the White House and State Dept. PR folks
President Bush Announces Combat Operations in Iraq Have Ended
President George W. Bush

May 1, 2003

Thank you all very much. Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln, my fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country.
