Rice clashes with 9/11 commission (from down-under)

National security adviser Condoleezza Rice has clashed sharply with Democratic members of the commission on September 11 over how seriously the Bush administration treated the al-Qaeda threat in the weeks before the attacks.

In highly charged testimony that has taken on enormous political importance, Rice began by saying that the administration of US President George W Bush as well as several previous presidents failed to respond adequately to threats from Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda organisation and other "terrorist" networks.
