Wisconsin voters would not elect Gov. Walker in retrospect: poll
Source: Raw Story

If voters in Wisconsin could repeat the 2010 gubernatorial election, the majority would support defeated Democratic nominee Tom Barrett over Republican Scott Walker, according to a report {PDF} by Public Policy Polling.

Fifty-two percent of the 768 registered Wisconsin voters surveyed said they would vote for Barrett if they could do last fall’s election for governor over again. Forty-five percent said they would vote for Walker and four percent were uncertain.

"The difference between how folks would vote now and how they voted in November can almost all be attributed to shifts within union households," Tom Jensen of PPP explained. "Voters who are not part of union households have barely shifted at all - they report having voted for Walker by 7 points last fall and they still say they would vote for Walker by a 4 point margin."

"But in households where there is a union member voters now say they'd go for Barrett by a 31 point margin, up quite a bit from the 14 point advantage they report having given him in November."

11. Why would he resign?
He is doing just what he wants.

Unless you happen to have something to blackmail him with. Pretty sure common decency or shame will not be coming into play with this one.

Expecting him to resign of his own free will is kind of like expecting a dog to spontaneously decide not to sniff crap on the street.

12. if polling shows he is a major drag on the party, or that phone call
Added up to actual criminal conduct, he could.

14. Criminal conduct, maybe
Maybe if he was enough of a drag on the party. Then again, maybe not in either case. He seems like the type to go down fighting and refusing to listen to reason. Does the legislature have the power to remove him?

4. Walker is likely angling
for a future with Koch Industrial.
He could care less what happens now - he is in an audition for a lifetime of riches - IMHO.

5. I didn't follow Walker's election campaign, but what did everyone think a right wing gov was going
to do? A republican gov needing to cut debt...Republicans always tell the truth, even when they lie.

8. Remorse means nothing to those protesting.
Hindsite means nothing when one lives in the here and now. The people of wisconsin are fighting for there state and for America.

I regret a lot of things, the difference between me, and MANY people on DU, is that we do something with that regret -- but, for right now, I am far more concerned about the here and and today. We are on THAT kind of precipice. It's that inmportant.

10. Mandate FAIL
If you don't campaign on massive social change, then don't be surprised when your citizens revolt against you.

17. I think the percentages are a little different than that.
The Puke base is about 33% - the rich and upper middle class who wouldn't vote anti-Puke if their lives depended on it. The other 9% are the functionally insane and the terminally stupid. These are the people who are swayed by the millions of dollars in campaign attack ads in any election.

16. I don't think it's as simple as that. Walker voters were more energized last year.
This is of registered voters, not likely voters in November of 2010. I have a strong feeling that many who may have skipped voting last time around won't do so in 2012. At any rate, it is good to see that most registered voters would be against Walker today.
