Meggitt to cut 70 Akron (OH) jobs (Moving to non-union facility)

Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems plans to cut 70 jobs at its Akron plant, moving the work to a nonunion facility in Danville, Ky.

Gene Steele, president of the United Auto Workers Local 856, said Monday that 50 hourly union workers and 20 salaried employees in Akron will lose their jobs.

Steele said he anticipates the jobs moving to a new ''final assembly and distribution center'' near Meggitt's other facility in Danville during July, August and September.

Steele said the layoffs are the latest in a string of job losses at the company, which makes parts for commercial and military aircraft.
