Fox Buses In Footage From Sacramento To Make Union Protesters Look Violent (VIDEO)
Brian Beutler | March 2, 2011, 10:29AM

In an alternative universe concocted by Fox News, Andrew Breitbart, and TCOT (top conservatives on twitter), the Madison capitol has become the island in Lord of the Flies, except the savages in this case are union "thugs." The mob has taken over, thick with radicals, and Republicans are likely to be attacked as a matter of course.

In reality, the long protest in Madison has been remarkably civil. As a testament to that, conservative media outlets are having a hard time finding examples of on-scene violence in Wisconsin that really bring their alternative narrative home. They've even gone so far as to claim their own reporters are under assault when they are not. Indeed, just as they accuse unions of busing in protesters from out of state, they've bussed in out-of-state footage, to make a case that can't be made by the facts.

...................

Notice the B-roll footage in the background at the end of the clip, complete with the calming backdrop of palm trees and....wait there are palm trees in Madison, Wisconsin?

No there are not. But that's because the footage comes from a solidarity protest in Sacramento, CA.
It's an altercation that sparked a brief cri de coeur online this Saturday, when conservatives thought they'd found the clip that could undermine the entire pro-union movement. It didn't. And in fact, as the O'Reilly segment suggests, it was just about the only thing they could find.

3. Fox News not only lies but it has the stupidest newscasters imaginable.
Actually it isn't imaginable.

The conflict is about the rights of organized labor -- unions -- and O'Reilly asks "Who's organizing this?"

And then, the signs look professional, and the guy wonders who made these professional looking signs. Gee, golly, hasn't he ever been in a third grade classroom? Who teaches people to make signs? What does he see hanging on the walls in the classrooms of America? Fox News reporters may have to be organized by Roger Ailes, but teachers are the most organized people in the world, and they organize their own lives, their classrooms and the children in their classrooms all by themselves all the time.

Who's organizing this? The same people who organize America's schools. And then of course who needs to organize police officers or firemen? These demonstrators are the top professionals in our country. Fox News assumes the the entire nation is as stupid as their viewers.

As for the palm trees, the idea of that clip was to show how people were being "bussed in" from other states. And one person who spent the night (gee, I wonder why he spent the whole night) at the demonstration was from California. Naturally, Fox News wanted to prove that the person was really from California. And the proof was, the guy from California brought his palm tree with him.

4. I'm sure it's a totally innocent mistake
made by some low level staffer.

just like those fake pictures of the Glenn Beck rally....or all those Republican politicians in trouble with the law who are listed with a (D) after their names on the chiron... or, all those factual mistakes made by O'Reilly, Beck and Hannity.... or

7. Someone simply opened the wrong file cabinet...
and pulled out the wrong film reel.

It is really that simple.

18. No. They picked that reel because the guy in the center looked very
angry. The real Wisconsin teachers look very peaceful. Fox News didn't like the reality, so it picked a reel that showed a scene it did like.

Fox News was too sloppy to notice the palm tree right in the center of the film. It is just one real obvious example of the kinds of lies Fox News broadcasts all the time.

And the worst is that O'Reilly probably will not apologize for this.

It is not a mistake when you lie about WMDs, you lie about what people say and do, you lie about where a film clip is from, and Fox News tells these lies all the time.

Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch should go find another line of work. They are not competent in the news business.

19. I suppose I should learn how to use the 'sarcasm' thing.
I see it on some posts, but I have no idea where the thing comes from.

They don't really use film reels anymore, do they? I thought everything was digital, now.

23. I am technologically illiterate. I suppose they don't use reels.
They probably just transmit the segments directly or use CDs or DVDs. I have no idea how they do it. Sorry. I'm technologically behind the times.

20. I don't understand it.
Shit like this has happened over and over again with Fox News and they always, ALWAYS, get away with it.
It seems to me the bible beaters who swear lying is evil go out of their way to support this kind of crap too.
I makes me crazy.

22. There should be laws against it,,
although proving it deliberate could be difficult.

Happens here too, and it's amazing ... it is always, always, right-wing shock jocks or journos who are guilty. If
they don't have facts, they just lie. And there are too many who drink it up with no questions asked.

26. Morning Schmoe had this clip on this morning
Same angry guy in the red shirt.
Then he showed a sign that said "Walker = Hitler" and sloughed it off saying something like "See? The liberals have all these youtube videos of *one or two signs* at a tea party protest but here you see the liberals carrying the same sort of signs"

I sent him the link to the video that he's showing on the air and calling it Wisconsin.
