Scott, again, slams high-speed rail plan
Source: Miami Herald

TALLAHASSEE -- — Gov. Rick Scott says two senators suing him because he rejected federal money to build high speed rail want the court to push their failed policies.

His sometimes stinging response filed Wednesday with the Florida Supreme Court calls them “senators whose policy preferences have not prevailed in the political process.”

Republican Thad Altman and Democrat Arthenia Joyner filed the lawsuit Tuesday, saying Scott overstepped his executive authority by killing the project after the Legislature approved it and appropriated money for it.

Oral arguments in the case are set for 3 p.m. on Thursday. Both sides have asked the judge to rule by Friday.

1. Let him reject it...and MAKE SURE it sticks to him...and
make sure that ALL of Florida knows who was responsible for them needing covered wagons
to get around.

2. Kick. A high speed rail from Orlando to Tampa would be pretty sweet.

3. What political process is that, Ricky?
"Like it or lump it" is not really a "process"; it's more like a dictatorial fiat. And if you abused your executive authority, the place to sort this out is in a court of law. Unless you'd prefer a return to the days of trial by combat. In which case, give me a sawbuck on Arthenia Joyner to clean your clock.

Why does Gov. Scott hate our system of checks and balances?

4. Gov. Scott to Florida Supreme Court: High-speed rail is not your fight
Source: Orlando Sentinel

Gov. Rick Scott responded Wednesday to a lawsuit trying to force him to accept $2.4 billion for a high-speed train by contending the action is baseless and should not be considered by the Florida Supreme Court.

The 29-page response said the suit filed with the high court Tuesday by Sens. Thad Altman, R-Viera, and Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa, is "based on mischaracterization and omissions of fact."

Later in the day, the court set oral arguments on the case for 3 p.m. Thursday.

The response, written by Scott general counsel Charles Trippe, said Scott cannot be compelled to support a high-speed train between Orlando and Tampa because Altman and Joyner do not have the standing to object.

Scott continues the Florida republicans battle against high speed rail, costing the state thousands of good paying jobs and infrastructure that will support tourism and business development.

On the other hand, Scott wants to cut education funding so he can eliminate corporate taxes.

I'm amazed that people can't see through this guy.

5. I really hate this guy
I don't use that word lightly. I generally hate this guy. Someone needs to look into our voting machines PRONTO. Because there is no way that Valdermont won this election. I know I live in Blue South Florida, but I cannot find a single person who even admits to voting for this fraud.

19. Nope. Though there is talk of a constitutional amendment allowing recall.
Of course, that would take a while, and Scott is wrecking the place right now, so we are stuck.

9. We can't check the voting machines. THEY own them.
Every election on those machines has the risk of being rigged. We know they (GOP who own the companies that make the machines) skim off a percentage or two from every election that they feel they can- and here in Florida there is no doubt that the machines were rigged. That's why we need a landslide turnout for every election- it's about winning by at least 3% or more- otherwise we're screwed. Scott won partly because of the low numbers of voters and partly from rigged machines. It didn't help that the Democratic candidate wasn't strong and well liked either. But I'm with you- he is a nightmare.

11. I live in one of the reddest counties in Florida, and
I have yet to meet a single person who voted for him. The guy is systematically destroying everything in our state.

13. I still can't figure out one crucial element about those voting machines.
The Supreme Court pointed out the discrepancy in voting methods in all the different counties. Why do we still have this discrepancy eleven years later? Why do red counties get the scanners with paper ballots and the blue, populated states have the electronic ones?

Why can't some wealthy Democratic fund the state so we can all have paper ballot scanners?

20. Welcome to what I, along with thousands, have been pleading for since 2002
And another example of what happens when corporations are permitted to own without requiring any type of transparency or method to check for accuracy-- the voting machines. It's terrifying but until more people get alarmed and start making noise (as we did which, by the way, enabled us in FL to switch from touch screens to opti-scans), we'll keep voting on the same machines.

10. Remarkably, the
Carpenters Union pay scale in Florida, is one of the lowest in America.....this was even before Scott. With so many wealthy people in FL, this gives a glimpse of a near neo-con paradise. Serfs are low paid, I can't see how they (we) can afford the astronomical rent there....

18. ONLY Floridians do.
Exactly.

I'm not from FL but it seems that the reps of the people DO have a right to question Scott on all his questionable actions.

And ANY Gov rejecting the high speed rail stuff is suspect. It's exactly what the economy needs right now.

15. That corridor NEEDS high speed rail.
Traffic there is a mess at rush hour. An hour trip can take up to 3 during "rush hour."
